To seek God, and be Christ’s body in the world
Greetings!
PREPARING FOR SUNDAY

When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, "Woman, you are set free from your ailment." When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God.
Luke 13:12-13

Reflection:
"In this story the woman is healed; she is made straight. We know that when we see, touch, and announce freedom from the burdens that weigh us down, not all of us are cured. But as in this Gospel story, we are all set free and given wholeness, purpose, and promise through Jesus Christ."
W. Joseph Mann

To Ponder:
"Do we cling to unhealthy aspects of ourselves because we fear the moment of being straightened and obliged to look Christ in the eye?"

To Pray:
Living God, you formed us in the womb and appointed us to be prophets to the nations. Stretch out your hand to cure our infirmity and dispel our fear, that we may know the freedom of serving you in Christ and proclaim the wonders you have done. Amen.

A Big Move

Fr. Chris reports, "It is with a mixture of excitement and sadness that I write that my wife, the Rev. Amanda Eiman, has accepted the call to be Rector of St. Philip’s in-the-Highlands, in Garrison, NY, beginning in January 2020.... Being close to Manhattan and a large number of other churches offers me a wide variety of possibilities in parish ministry and mission- my abiding passions....Though you know I am transitioning from being your Rector in January, still, moving away from the familiar and beloved is never easy." A Special Blessing

There will be a Blessing of Backpacks this Sunday. Students of all ages, teachers, office-employees, and other tote-carrying workers are encouraged to bring their school bags, briefcases, laptop cases, diaper bags, etc. to church. If in doubt, bring your bag! Bag-carriers will be called forward during the 9:30 AM service and offered a special blessing. Bag-tags will be provided. This is a great evangelizing opportunity, so please extend invitations to friends and neighbors! If you are not in town but would like a bag-tag that is part of the blessing, please let Ms. Deb know.
VBS Sundays
Care of Creation Continues

Children and youth continue the "Care of Creation" VBS on August 25 and September 8. Our last two Sundays will focus on first caring for all who make our school system succeed, and then on the 8th, we go out with a sizzle. We show we care for God by admiring his creation...including making colorful volcanoes again. Each Sunday the children and youth programs begin at 9:15 AM. Adults are welcome to join the younger members of our church family. Nursery care also begins at 9:15 AM.

Note: Labor Day Sunday is a holiday and there will not be a VBS program. However, children are invited to join Ms. Deb to play outside if the weather is nice. We will blow bubbles to show that the Holy Spirit is always with us. Nursery care will also be available beginning at 9:15 AM.
Lemonade Sale News
A Big Success!

The children and youth raised $300 to be split evenly between Ronald McDonald House Philly and Highland Hamper. Thanks to parents for providing the lemonade and other support, to our enthusiastic youth leaders and photographer, Sherrill and Maggie for set-up (and providing the adorable lemonade stand), and most of all to our generous parishioners for enthusiastically contributing to purchase a great deal of lemonade.

The Summer Schedule Subsides

CCI's Centennial
Celebration Planning

CCI’s Centennial planning with St. Martin’s continues with the next meeting being on Sunday, September 1st, at 11:30 AM in CCI’s library. The November 10th event will commemorate our ties to one another (CCI was a mission of St. Martin’s) and the future we are shaping as we search for one Rector for both churches. The event will include Bishop Rodney Michel celebrating the Holy Eucharist at 10:00 AM and brunch to follow in the Ithan Hall. CCI invites everyone to join in the recognition of this historical milestone.
Questions? Please see Walt Albert.
