PREPARING FOR SUNDAY

And he said to them, "Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions."
Luke 12:15

Reflection: Wealth Management
"Possessions are not eternal; the present physical life, with all its temptations and snares, is not eternal either. Caritas is eternal, within the Trinitarian life. We do not need bigger barns or houses to store up that treasure; we need to open our hearts wider to the Holy Spirit to prepare for our eternal life with the Lord...That does not mean that one has to renounce all worldly possessions, although a number of saints found that path to the Lord. It does mean we need to keep them in proper perspective. We may own them in the legal and philosophical sense, but in the eternal sense we are not masters of them but only stewards. The same is true for our physical natures in this world; we own our bodies as a gift from God, but they are in the end transitory, and the Lord expects us to be good stewards of His gift."

A Prayer
"Generous God, in abundance you give us things both spiritual and physical. Help us to hold lightly the fading things of this earth and grasp tightly the lasting things of your kingdom, so that what we are and do and say may be our gifts to you through Christ, who beckons all to seek the things above, where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen."

Summertime Sunday VBS

Last Sunday the children helped collect sticks and water plants. We continued to read about who our neighbor is. Hint: Everybody. How do we know this? It is in the Bible. Jesus teaches us to love our neighbor as ourselves.

This coming Sunday we will continue to talk about how Jesus teaches us to care. If the weather is nice we'll read and enjoy the outdoors. If it is not pleasant outside, we will meet in the large Sunday School room. Our Summer Sunday VBS series is open to friends and family who may be visiting, so please plan to join us at 9:15 a.m. The Nursery will also be open at that time.

Flat Jesus continues to travel with our families, so please take pictures with him and send them to Ms. Deb either by email or text to 740.272.6901. We enjoy staying connected with each other throughout the summer.
CCI's Centennial
Celebration Planning

CCI’s Centennial planning with St. Martin’s continues with the next meeting being this Sunday, August 4th, at 11:30 AM in CCI’s library. The November 10th event will commemorate our ties to one another (CCI was a mission of St. Martin’s) and the future we are shaping as we search for one Rector for both churches. The event will include Bishop Rodney Michel celebrating the Holy Eucharist at 10:00 AM and brunch to follow in the Ithan Hall. CCI invites everyone to join in the recognition of this historical milestone. Questions? Please see Walt Albert.
All Levels Yoga Class

It's a great mind-body-soul experience!

Blessing of the Animals

St. Martin’s will host a Blessing of the Animals outdoor event on Sunday, August 11th, at 9:30 AM. The morning will begin with a worship service and blessings for our furry, feathered, and scaly guests of honor followed by a fellowship hour that’s complete with iced tea and treats. All pets must be properly restrained on a leash or in a carrier. Does Fluffy not travel well in a kitty carrier? Does Fido not like other dogs? Is Goldie a fish? Not to worry! Join the party with a pet photo for a remote blessing. Come – Sit – Stay!!
