August 2020
Hi friends

Hot hot hot days, long warm evenings. What's not to love about summer in Calgary?
We have great books, inspiring craft ideas, recipes and podcasts for you in our August newsletter.
If you have kids 8 1/2 and older please remember to sign them up for PJ Our Way (details below). And PJOW families, its time to choose your August books.
If you are moving let me know - it takes four to six weeks to process an address change - and lost books are difficult to replace.
And don't forget to sign your parents up for PJ Grandparents . They will love it!

PJ GRANDPARENTS

Great News! Grandparents can receive the gift of PJ Library, too (for free!).
Visit pjlibrary.org/grandparents and sign up the grandparents in your life for special mailings and emails from PJ Library. Grandparents must have a grandchild with a current PJ Library subscription. Multiple grandparent households can be signed up. Visit the  FAQ page  for more details.
Calgary Jewish Federation and our community agencies and institutions have created   JEWISH CALGARY TOGETHER   an online hub where you can find virtual programs and events, resources, and opportunities for volunteering or assisting with other needs in our community. If you are not receiving these notifications please  Email Kathie.
Do you have an old, unused iPad, laptop, or desktop ?
If your device is still in decent working condition, the JCC can find a new (and very appreciative) home for it. The JCC provides virtual exercise classes to seniors and are looking for these items to be donated to those who have been unable to access our Zoom sessions. Please email Zain if you have an item you wish to donate.
These 7 activities are easy for kids to do on their own – or with an older sibling supervising – and are sure to excite the curious, independent learners in your life.

Squash can be found in abundance over the summer, and these oven-fried zucchini sticks will encourage even the pickiest eaters to dig right in. Extra bonus: Kids can help make them!

This year, the first night of Rosh Hashanah is on Friday, September 18. Get into the mood by creating cards to send to friends and loved ones.

PJ Library's award-winning podcast is the perfect break for you and enjoyment for your kids! Every episode of Have I Got a Story for You! takes a classic Jewish folktale and gives it a modern twist. Explore the episodes and find related activities to keep the fun going.
Check out the four fantastic books offered for August selection! Rosetta and her family welcome a teen war refugee into their Montreal home, while 13-year-old Nat gets more than he bargained for when he’s recruited to play professional soccer in England. Zelly’s ready to do whatever it takes to get a dog, and David must show courage in the face of Denmark’s Nazi occupation. Find your next great read! Remember to choose your book by August 10th!

Know a creative kid who loves reading books, making videos, and writing blog posts? Applications for the National Design Team open August 15th! Team members get early access to PJ Our Way books, create original projects, build skills, and meet other kids from all different regions. All PJ Our Way kids from the US and Canada are invited to apply! Contact designteam@pjourway.org for more information.
