Happy Birthday Change Food!!

Change Food Turns Two
We're excited to announce that Change Food officially turned two years old in August. Many thanks to all of you for being part of the Change Food community - may we continue to grow in numbers and continue to see the positive change we've been working toward.
And rather than a bad-sugar-laden cake, the sweetest thing you could do for us is
donate to Change Food. We've got so many exciting things happening in 2015-2016 and we want to make sure we can continue to bring you the best of the best.

Change Food Festival Coming in Spring!

Change Food Festival in NYC Spring 2016
"Brave Food World"
We're so excited to announce that the first annual Change Food Festival will take place late March/early April 2016 in New York City. This 3-day immersive festival will include action, adventure, feasting, films, talks and more!
Date to be finalized shortly. And we are working on a website dedicated to the festival - it should be online by early September.
And we'll be webcasting live talks from key speakers on the Saturday afternoon. If you want to host a viewing party in your town/home/office/locality, just let us know! We'll have more information soon, but you can email
diane@changefood.org if you are interested in hosting a viewing party. And if you want to help underwrite or sponsor the event, please get in touch! This will be a collaborative event highlighting many groups. Oh, and we'll explain the theme next month...
Many thanks to you who filled out the survey about having a Change Food Festival - there were so many fantastic suggestions!

Community Connection: FoodDay & Lilia Smelkova
|
Lilia Smelkova is the Food Day Campaign Manager. Born in Belarus, she spent 10 years working for Slow Food International in Italy before moving to Washington, D.C., to work on the inaugural Food Day in 2011. Passionate about improving the food system, she hopes that with Food Day we can celebrate the food system when it works and fix it when it's broken.
Food Day inspires Americans to change their diets and our food policies. Every October 24, thousands of events all around the country bring Americans together to celebrate and enjoy real food and to push for improved food policies. October 24 is a day to resolve to make changes in our own diets and to take action to solve food-related problems in our communities at the local, state, and national level.
The most important ingredient in Food Day is you! Click here to learn more about how you can participate in Food Day and support the campaign.
About Community Connections
Change Food doesn't sit around in an office typing newsletters to you once a month - Change Food is a community. It's all of us who are working to eat healthier and change the food system. So we want to get to know you. Who are you? Who or what group should we promote and why?
Let us know who you are by filling out this form so we can consider promoting you in a future newsletter.

The Change Food Video Library
|
Even though the Change Food Library
is sill in beta, it's live! It's an incredible resource to learn more about food and farming. Search by topic or speaker to find videos on a variety of subjects.
Educational kits that feature discussion questions as well as links to relevant organizations, publications, social media channels, etc, are also being developed. We are also creating a how-to guide so you can put on your own event. More info on that next month.
More kits coming next month - but, in the meantime, watch your favorite talks over and over.

Have you taken the Change Food Challenge
? August is here, and whether you are enjoying your vacation or stuck in the office, take a moment to make a simple difference in our food system. Right now, challenge yourself to do 3 things to educate yourself, take action or get involved with changing the way we eat.
Be Inspired! Congratulations to Courtney Trautman for signing 5 petitions, and Dimitra Konstantakou, who completed 6 challenges, including cooking a meal using local, seasonal ingredients. What are you going to do???
|
Enjoy the rest of your summer - and get prepared for much more information about the Change Food Festival!
Delicious thoughts,
