Intersectionality Awareness Month
What is Intersectionality?
According to Decide Diversity, intersectionality occurs when a person identifies with two or more marginalized, oppressed, or underrepresented groups. Intersectionality also describes the impact various systems have on people at the intersection of multiple identities.
It was coined by Kimberle Crenshaw in 1989, but the concept of Intersectionality has been around for a while.

The California WIC Association is inviting you to take a survey on food, nutrition, and the WIC program. Your responses to this survey will help us understand how much you know about and use WIC. Your information is helpful even if you don’t know much about WIC. The information you provide will be used to help design ways for others to learn about and take part in WIC. We recommend that only one person per family answer this survey.

Important Medi-Cal Updates Ahead:
What Members Need to Know
| | |
Major updates are coming to Medi-Cal that may impact seniors, people with disabilities, and undocumented adults.
Most members will keep their current coverage, and continue to have access to medical, dental, vision, mental health, and preventive care services—including doctor visits, prescriptions, hospital stays, and more to support your overall health.
However, some groups will see changes starting in 2026 and 2027.
Changes include:
-
Asset Limits Returning: Starting Jan. 1, 2026, Medi-Cal will again consider assets (like savings or extra vehicles) for seniors and people with disabilities.
-
Enrollment Freeze: Undocumented adults (ages 19+) not currently enrolled won’t be able to newly sign up for full-scope Medi-Cal beginning in 2026.
-
Dental Coverage Ends: As of July 1, 2026, non-emergency dental care will no longer be covered for undocumented adults.
-
Monthly Premiums Begin: Starting July 1, 2027, certain undocumented adults must pay $30/month to maintain full-scope Medi-Cal.
Current Medi-Cal members are encouraged to renew on time to maintain their coverage. They should watch for mail and respond promptly to renewal packets or letters from their health plan or local county office.

Civitas Annual Conference
Bridging Data and Doing
In Partnership with 211 San Diego/CIE and
Civitas’ California members
| | |
Civitas’s Annual Conference brings together hundreds of passionate industry leaders, decision-makers, and innovators to discuss interoperability, data-driven quality improvement, social determinants of health, public health, multistakeholder and community-led governance, and health outcomes. Civitas’ members and network serve as the bridge between “data” and “doing” in health and health care. Attendees choose the conference to foster deep connections, strengthen and build new partnerships, and leave with tangible ways to evolve their national, state, regional, and local initiatives.
Representatives will join us from regional and state HIEs, RHICs, CIEs, QIOs, health data organizations, CBOs, federal, state, and local governments, and business and technology partners.

Out and About in the Community
Thursday, August 7, 2025: CIE attended the Partners in Equity Coalition Meeting that took place at the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA with dialogue hosted/facilitated by the YMCA of San Diego County. Their mission is to host, “a dedicated platform that elevates the voice and expertise of community members and families to provide solutions to reduce racial bias and inequity within the child welfare system and keep children with their families.”
These spaces continue to teach us of the importance of hosting open dialogue with residents, clients, and community members and the impact this work can have. It was a privilege to be a witness of families feeling safe enough to voice real concerns pertaining10:30 am to their interactions with systems of care, and seeing the real-time responses from providers willing to help and follow up to ensure connectivity.
Meetings are held every 1st Thursday of the month from 9:30-10:30am (@Jackie Robinson YMCA) & every 2nd Thursday of the month from 6:00-7:30pm (via Zoom). Childcare is provided for in person meetings and interpretation is also available. There are also compensation opportunities available for community members who register in advance. For partners & community members wanting to join these efforts, please register by visiting this link.
Attached an Office of the Ombudsman brochure to be shared with community members who may have concerns or in need of additional information related to Child & Family Well-Being.
Thank you to our partner, YMCA of San Diego County, for the invitation to attend. We are grateful for all you do to cultivate these spaces for our vibrant communities and elevate voices of lived expertise!
