Thank You for Walking!

I has been two long years since River City Domestic Violence Center got out on the bridge to "Walk a Mile in Their Shoes" and we were excited to get moving! This year marked our 14th year of hosting this march against violence and awareness event. Our goal has always been to show up and step out for survivors of violence, showing them that we are here to walk this journey with them.

We had 12 teams and 90 walkers this year! We are proud of the community for coming out despite the looming pandemic, heat, and storm rolling in. Our largest teams this year were the Yankton Fire Department (recieving the award with 12 walkers) and Horizon Health Care. Reverend Reck took home the certificate for largest individual fundraiser and First Dakota National Bank won it for the team category. Long time walker Dan Sanow won some cool gift cards for Most Spirited Walker and our Service Certificate went to Board Member Sheila Woodward.

We are so blessed to have you all walking beside survivors and our mission here at River City Domestic Violence Center. We could not accomplish our goals without the help from each and every one of you. Thank you!

Thank you to the Yankton Community Work Center for donating these beautiful, healthy, fresh veggies to our shelter families! We have yellow squash, zuchinis, and cucumbers to help nourish their bellies, YUM! Later in the month, we also recieved some lovely tomatoes from them!

Do you have a favorite recipe for one of these? We love getting in the kitchen with our families and making good food for those in shelter. Thank you!

This week we recieved the most special donation of home sewn stuffies from the talented Gladys Tacke! We send her a very special "Thank You" for thinking of the children that come through our agency. How special it will be to see their smiles as they recieve a new stuffie to keep. Our Executive Director made sure to give each stuffie some love before it goes off to it's new home where it will surely share that love Thank you Gladys!!
