Hi Zach,

It’s officially move-in month! Your residential community will be a core part of your experience in The Forest, and we’d like to share some important information as you prepare for your August arrival.

We look forward to welcoming you to campus on August 21.

If you are participating in a Pre-Orientation or other early arrival program, you should have received communications from our office confirming your early arrival date. That message also included instructions on when and where to check-in. If you have not received confirmation of your early arrival, please contact our office at housing@wfu.edu as soon as possible.

NEW STUDENT MOVE-IN

As you prepare for move-in day, please note the following:

  • Before coming to campus, all students will check in at the Lawrence Joel Memorial Veterans Coliseum (LJVM, aka the Joel) at 2825 University Parkway, Winston Salem, NC 27105, no earlier than 15 minutes before their move-in time.
  • To best manage traffic flow, we encourage new students and those traveling with them to enter campus via University Parkway or Reynolda Road.
  • To expedite the move-in process, we encourage students to arrive during the suggested move-in timeframes based on your housing assignment. You can find those times here and in your housing portal.
  • As you plan, feel free to refer to the University's maps page.
  • Check-in will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; however, Move-In Assistance will only be available from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

For more information, please visit our move-in information page.

AFTER HOURS ARRIVALS

If you are unable to arrive during the check-in hours on your APPROVED move-in date, please follow the instructions below.

August 16-23: After-hours check-in will ONLY be available from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will NOT be available between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. If you plan to arrive after 9 p.m., you will need to make alternative off-campus arrangements until the following day.

YOU MUST SUBMIT THIS FORM TO CHECK IN BETWEEN 6 AND 9 P.M.

You must use your @wfu.edu email to access the form.

For after-hours arrival, please proceed to your community office and contact the RA on duty using the number posted at the office or available here.

PREPARING TO LIVE IN COMMUNITY

As you prepare to arrive on campus in the coming weeks, one of the most important topics to consider is how to best prepare to live in community. Once you arrive on campus, you’ll meet your RA, and if you live in a double, your RA (Resident Adviser) will facilitate a roommate agreement conversation with you and your roommate. The agreement will guide you through the initial conversation about ground rules for your shared space. You may have shared rooms with siblings or other family members or may never have shared living space at all, but living with someone new for the first time will require you to listen, communicate, and compromise–and that starts with your roommate agreement. Check out this message from Orientation, New Student, and Transition Programs for more advice on navigating the roommate relationship.

For more on expectations for community living in The Forest, please review the Guide to Community Living and the Student Code of Conduct
