Key Updates from the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC)
Ontario Chamber of Commerce Welcomes Rocco Rossi as its New President and CEO!

Rocco Rossi has been appointed as the organization’s new President and CEO, effective January 2, 2018.

The widespread experience Rocco brings in business, executive leadership and advocacy will no doubt help us advance our five strategic goals to ensure we continue to create value for our chamber network, corporate members and stakeholders.

Bringing over 30 years of experience in business leadership, public policy and advocacy to the OCC, Mr. Rossi currently serves as the President and CEO at Prostate Cancer Canada and will continue in this role until December 31, 2017. At Prostate Cancer Canada, Mr. Rossi helped to advance the research, advocacy, education and awareness of the most common cancer in men. Prior to joining Prostate Cancer Canada, Mr. Rossi held roles at Advanced Material Resources, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, The Boston Consulting Group, Torstar, Labatt/Interbrew and MGI Software.

We are extremely excited to have Rocco join the team. In 2018, Rocco will be getting to know the local chambers and our corporate members to ensure Ontario businesses are not only heard, but their issues are sufficiently addressed in the work that we do.

Thanks to all our members for their support during this time.

Building Better: Setting up the Next Ontario Long-Term Infrastructure Plan for Success!

The Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) released Building Better: Setting the 2017 Ontario Infrastructure Plan up for success, a report calling on the Ontario Government to implement key recommendations in its imminent Long-Term Infrastructure Plan (LTIP) that will help ensure accountable planning and building resilient, adaptable infrastructure for the future.

With relatively stagnant infrastructure investment since the 1970s, the province of Ontario currently faces a significant infrastructure gap, where it would need an estimated $19 billion to improve current infrastructure alone. The gap exists because governments have not invested in upholding original infrastructure and Ontario’s harsher climate has contributed to the deterioration of the province’s infrastructure.

Hammering Business – Finance Canada's New Crackdown

The government recently proposed the most radical tax overhaul in 50 years.

The CCC is particularly worried about the impact on business from (1) a new tax on investment income in a corporation and (2) tough new rules for compensation in family businesses.
In this special edition of 5 Minutes for Business , Hendrik Brakel, CCC Senior Director, Economic, Financial and Tax Policy, looks at what is driving the government's new crackdown on private corporations.
We encourage you to contact your local MP to tell him/her the government is proposing to hammer business with tax changes that will hurt families and punish entrepreneurs.
