KEEP AUSTIN BUILDING SAFELY!

The past few months have been very challenging for the construction industry as we navigate the choppy waters of the COVID-19 era.  One of the positive outcomes during this time has been the massive effort by Austin AGC members to take jobsite safety and health measures to a high level in order to prevent the spread of the virus among the workforce, their families and the community as a whole. Thank you to all who have taken the extra steps needed to protect the people who build our quality of life here in Central Texas!

Over this past month the Austin AGC has been proud to partner locally with Tito's Handmade Vodka to deliver 2,000 bottles  of  sanitizer, as well as with Austin Emergency Supply Foundation  to deliver 2,000 masks to local jobsites.  We  greatly appreciate this collaborative spirit that benefits our whole community!

Remember, we still need to maintain a heightened focus on safety and health.  Be sure to follow Austin's rules for construction sites, and don't hesitate to contact our safety director, Michael Welvaert, for assistance as needed.
PROJECT MANAGER PROGRAM IS SOLD OUT

The Austin AGC's upcoming  Project Manager Development Program (PMDP) has officially sold out with  31 students signed up!   This training will be led via Zoom video conferencing by a Procore Construction Education Training Specialist, Ben Ashburn, on 5 consecutive Wednesdays beginning June 3 and ending July 1.  Over half the students are participating from outside Central Texas, and many of those are spread out over 4 other states.

This 2nd edition of the PMDP is designed to specifically meet the needs of today's construction industry.  The curriculum combines activities and shared experiences to provide the necessary skills and knowledge to increase the participant's ability to work successfully with others to ensure project success.  This recently updated 40 hour training was developed by AGC member company project managers for aspiring and new construction project managers.

The revised PMDP curriculum takes participants through the management of the entire lifecycle of a construction project, and contains the following five units:
  • Unit 1: Introduction to Project Management
  • Unit 2: Initiating and Planning, Part 1
  • Unit 3: Initiating and Planning, Part 2
  • Unit 4: Executing
  • Unit 5: Monitoring and Controlling, and Project Closeout
Given the strong interest in this training, we have already started a registration list for a potential second class later this year.  To add your name, contact Toni Osberry.

OFFICE RENOVATION to BEGIN SOON

Please be aware that renovation of the interior of our building is
about to begin, likely in June.   We've selected a fellow AGC member, IE2 Construction, as the General Contractor for our project, and they have already been busy speaking with trade partners interested in participating.  If you are interested in helping as well, be sure to  e-mail Mike Nieft as soon as possible.

Please note that AGC staff will NOT be in the office during the construction process.  However, we will continue to be available for you by phone (512.442.7887) and e-mail.

Last, we are selling some office furniture.  Take a look here at what is available, and if there is anything you can use for your office, jobsite trailer of elsewhere, let us know!  Some of items are available at no charge, others have small asking price.
SAVE MONEY with the AGC 401k PLAN

Austin AGC member companies are now eligible to participate in the AGC Southwest Chapters 401(k) Plan,  one of the largest association plans in the nation with more than $350 million in assets and over 100 participating companies. The plan started in 2009 at the AGC Houston and in 2012 merged with the Louisiana AGC multiple employer plan.

As an Austin AGC company member your firm can now  join this "closed" MEP as an adopting employer. Under a closed MEP there  are no individual  audits, no 5500 tax filing or other tasks affiliated with an "open" MEP or individual  401(k) plan for your company. This results in large costs savings for your company. Further, there is no liability for you as the Trustee, Plan Administrator or Named Fiduciary.
