Austin Paid Sick Time Ordinance Ruled Unconstitutional
In a Nov. 16, 2018 opinion, Texas' Third Court of Appeals held that Austin's paid sick time ordinance, enacted Feb. 16, 2018, “violates the Texas Constitution because it is preempted by the Texas Minimum Wage Act.”

Fifth Circuit Expands OSHA's Authority To Cite General Contractors
In 1981, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals announced in Melerine v. Avondale Shipyards, Inc. , that “OSHA regulations protect only an employer’s own employees.”
