APS Board Profile: Diana Conces
Diana L. Conces is Vice President and anthology editor for APS. Seventy-five of her poems have been published or accepted for publication, along with a handful of photographs. Her novel,  The Golden Feather , originated as a bedtime story for her youngest daughter. Her oldest daughter illustrated her new poetry collection,  Blue Skies & Blacktop . Her poems have appeared in newspapers and buses and were part of the inspiration for artist Liz Spencer’s exhibition  The Drift of Stars  in December 2018 at Archway Gallery. She lives with her mother, three children (Eleanor, Bruce, and Betty), and two cats.
Saturday Critique Group
The Critique Group will meet December 14, 1:30-3:30pm at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church , room 101, 7050 Village Center Dr, Austin.

APS Monthly Contests
The September and November contests are being combined. The popular vote will be held at the December meeting.
Thirsty Thursday
As is customary, Thirsty Thursday will not meet in December.

APS Open Mic Night
The December Open Mic conflicts with the day after Christmas when NeWorlDeli will be closed and is canceled. See you in January 2020.

Austin International Poetry Festival anthology (di-vêrsé-city) submissions are now open. They close on February 28, 2020. Guidelines here.

TOMORROW'S POETS TODAY celebrates poetry by youth, who will be the poets of tomorrow. Please share this possibility of publication with any interested parties. We trust the Anthology of Youth Poetry will be published in April 2020 – National Poetry Month, which is why we seek your submissions now. The deadline has been extended to January 30, 2020 . Kallisto Gaia Press Contemporary Poetry Chapbook Prize - 28-48 pages of contemporary poetry. Winner will receive $800, publication by Kallisto Gaia Press, 20 copies of the chapbook, $300 stipend toward travel to Austin for our release event, and up to 20 Advance Review Copies (ARCs) to be sent to reviewers and award sponsors chosen by the winner. Poets & Writers maintains searchable databases for Writing Contests, Grants & Awards, and for Literary Journals. A Submissions Calendar also is available to help get your work published. The print journal is available at the Central Library. Ads list many contests and calls for submission.

Member Publication News
Diana L. Conces   is delighted to share that her poem, “Riding Free,” will appear in the next edition of  The Ocotillo Review . She will also be appearing at the Houston invitational Heights Artisan Market, Saturday, December 7, from 10am-5pm at All Saints Church Hall, 215 E 10 th  Street, Houston. There are a variety of artists and authors, along with snacks and live music.

Kaye Abikhaled was a featured reader at Parson’s House, November 10, 2019, reading from her books,  Childhood in the Third World, Lyrics of Lebanon, Club des Poėtes,  and her manuscript  Assurances .

Brad Strahan: Visions International #100 just came out, featuring Mary Crow, one of our top Native American poets, and some of the last poems by the great Micheal Mott, who died last month, a great loss! Copies will be available at the December meeting.

Christa Pandey will take part in the last 2020 Texas Poetry Calendar reading at Malvern Books on Saturday, December 7, 7pm. The store will have copies of her newest chapbook and reprints of her earlier chapbooks for sale.

Benjamin Nash has two poems forthcoming: "Baritone" in The Ocotillo Review and "Social Worker" in Star 82 Review.

Nancy Fierstien: Accents Publishing editor Katerina Stoykova is putting out a "family" issue of her Literary Accents magazine. All 6 of Nancy Fierstien's poems were ranked lovely. "Trouble: It Runs in the Family" will go into print.
