Austin Poetry Society Museletter
APS February Monthly Meeting

The APS Monthly Meeting will be February 16, 1:30-3pm at Twin Oaks Library, Rm. #1 . Join Lisa Grant Davis and Jennine Krueger, Spoken Word artists who perform under the stage names “maljazur” and “Doc”, respectively, for a discussion of the art form. They will share their experience on the local Spoken Word scene and lead participants in an interactive journey through a Spoken Word open mic session. Lisa Grant Davis is a Training Manager with Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Jennine Krueger is an English Professor at Huston-Tillotson University.

March, April, May, Sept, Oct, and Nov meetings are all at Carver Public Library. This is a change from the December MuseLetter.
Invite Someone New

Know anyone who is a writer or wannabe writer or poet or reader of poems? Invite them to attend a monthly meeting or forward them a copy of the newsletter. We are better when more interested folks attend.

APS Saturday Critique Group

The Critique Group will be on Saturday, February 2, 1:30-3:30pm at the Yarborough Library, 2200 Hancock Dr, Austin.

Bring 10 copies of a poem in progress to discuss with friendly poets. The group is facilitated by Elizabeth Kropf. Email for more information.

Member Publication News

George Klawitter will have a poem ("Raku") published this spring in the West Texas Literary Review and a poem ("Hand in Hand") published also this spring in Presence , an annual poetry journal. "Hand in Hand" is from his sonnet sequence "The Priest."

Brad Strahan h ad a big month with 5 poems accepted: 2 by Third Wednesday , 2 by Red Clay Review , and 1 by Oracle .

Benjamin Nash had a poem appear in the  Houston Chronicle  newspaper.

Jeffrey Taylor had "Little Storms" published in the Mutabilis Press anthology, The Enchantment of the Ordinary.

APS January Monthly Meeting

Tony Burnett of Kallisto Gaia Press (left) talked about the press, how it's structured, his role in it, and read poems from his chapbook in progress. An Open Mic followed. Several members submitted poems for the Monthly Contest. Winners will be announced at the February meeting.

Poetry Summer Camp
Westlake poet and literacy teacher  Rachel Talen  is offering a multi-age (3rd through 8th grade) summer camp for poetry and creative writing instruction. Express your feelings, wonders, interests, and concerns, and be inspired by your life, nature, and surroundings as you discover your voice through poetic expression. Mini–lessons on writing techniques, word choice, types of poetry, and famous poets’ work will help us develop our inner voice and inspire us to connect with ourselves and others. Students will publish their work in a class book of poems.

2019 Sessions will be offered from each weekday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with the location TBD, but likely a centrally located Austin café or coffee shop.

Session I June 3-7 | Session II June 10-14 | Session III June 17-21 | Session IV June 24-28
Two sessions: $400 | One session: $225 | Drop-in day: $45
