The Critique Group will meet February 8, 1:30-3:30pm at Northwest Hills United Methodist Church (NW Hills UMC) , 7050 Village Center Dr, Austin ( Enter through the office door where awning is. Come to Room 101 – first room off the reception desk after you come in the door.) . APS Open Mic Night
The February Open Mic will be 5-6:40pm (change) at the NeWorlDeli, 4101 Guadalupe St, Austin. NeWorlDeli is now booking music for the last slot, so APS has been bumped to the earlier slot.
January/February Monthly Contest Cancelled
Unfortunately, the APS January/February Monthly Contest has been cancelled. According to our bylaws, contests must have a minimum of five entries to be judged, and this round did not meet that requirement. Poems submitted will be returned to the poets, and no winners will be announced this round. Please submit to our next contest in March! Any current APS member can enter, and winners receive cash prizes as well as publication for first place. Details can be found at http://www.austinpoetrysociety.org/monthly-contests/. The Annual Contests are also open, with entries due April 1st. Lots of opportunities for success! Don’t miss your chance.

Alabama Spring 2020 Poetrty Contest submissions close March 28, 2020. Details at Alabama State Poetry Society Spring Contests and Workshops.

Black Lawrence 2020 Hudson Prize is now open for submissions! Each year Black Lawrence Press Hudson Prize is awarded for an unpublished collection of poems or short stories. The prize is open to new, emerging, and established writers. The winner of this contest will receive book publication, a $1,000 cash award, and ten copies of the book. Prizes are awarded on publication. The deadline is March 31. Submit your manuscript here. 
Alabama State Poetry Society Annual John and Miriam Morris Memorial Chapbook competition. Deadline: 5/31/2020. E-mail the editor for details.

Poets & Writers maintains searchable databases for Writing Contests, Grants & Awards , and for Literary Journals . A Submissions Calendar also is available to help get your work published. The print journal is available at the Central Library. Classified ads in the back list many contests and calls for submission.

Member Publication News
Gordon Magil l had one of his poems selected for the Poems on Panes contest that put poems printed on vinyl on 11 shop windows in downtown Tallahassee, FL.

Monday January 6, Austin poets participated with host Greg Ciotti in two KOOP programs. Participants included Kaye Abikhaled , Ken Jones , Edith Tapia , Peter Sebert, Teresa Y. Roberson , and Spirit Thom . Gilka Cespedes was also with us. She has a long association with putting Austin poets on Community Radio KOOP.
 
Two Anthologies were promoted-TOMORROW'S POETS TODAY (young poets) and PASSED POETS(for Austin poets passed).

LaVern Spencer McCarthy has a new book published called Porch Swing Rhyme .
