APS January Monthly Meeting

The APS Monthly Meeting will be January 19 at Windsor Park Library. The time for this one meeting is 12noon to 2pm . Tony Burnett of Kallisto Gaia press will come and talk about the press, how it’s structured and his role in it, and read some poems from his chapbook-in-progress. There may be time for an Open Mic. This meeting is the deadline for the January Monthly Contest.

The February meeting is at Twin Oaks Rm. #1, 1-3:30pm. March, April, May, Sept, Oct, and Nov meetings are all at Carver Public Library. This is a change from the December MuseLetter.

Invite Someone New

Know anyone who is a writer or wannabe writer or poet or reader of poems? Invite them to attend a monthly meeting or forward them a copy of the newsletter. We are better when more interested folks attend.
APS Memberships Expiring

All APS memberships expired in May, so now is a great time to re-up for next year—don't miss out on any of the contests or great meetings. You can renew your membership at any Monthly Meeting or online here.

APS Saturday Critique Group

The Critique Group will be on Saturday, January 12, 1:30-3:30pm at the Yarborough Library, 2200 Hancock Dr, Austin.

Bring 10 copies of a poem in progress to discuss with friendly poets. The group is facilitated by Elizabeth Kropf. Email for more information.

Sequestrum Reprint Award Have a poem previously published in a small journal, on your personal blog, or long ago and far away? Long to see it in print again? Submissions close April 30, 2019, earlier if heavy volume so submit early.

Texas Poetry Calendar submissions for 2020 are now open through February 20, 2019. Guidelines here.

The Rumpus  wants to read your poems! Our inaugural open submissions period for the  Rumpus Original Poetry series will be January 1–January 31. Please gather up 4-8 poems to share and see our Submittable  for further guidelines. Please note: the poetry section will be live once the reading period begins. We welcome submissions from poets at all stages of their career without regard to publication history or academic background. We likewise encourage the submissions of poets from underrepresented backgrounds. Our tastes are wide and varied (visit our  archives  to familiarize yourself with what we’ve published in the past). We’d also like to welcome aboard our new team of poetry readers: Cindy Arrieu-King, S. Erin Batiste, Megan Fernandes, George Higgins, Emma Hyche, Lena Khalaf Tuffaha, and Steven Sanchez.

Member Publication News

Amy Schumacher had one poem published in the Fall 2018 edition of Rio Review, "Winter Office View," and had the opportunity to read it at the release party at Malvern's. 

Diana L. Conces was honored to participate in the opening of "A Drift of Stars," an art exhibition by Liz Conces Spencer at Archway Gallery in Houston, Texas, on December 1. Several of the paintings were inspired by lines from Diana's poems, and she read several works at the opening, which was filmed and uploaded to the gallery's YouTube channel. Also, her poem, "Fence Line," was accepted for the Winter 2019 issue of Ocotillo Review. This poem was inspired by Liz Conces Spencer's painting of the same title.

Brad Strahan had another poem accepted this month by The Lyric.

Christa Pandey was interviewed by Ben Pehr for Nafas. She read ten of her poems in the session, which will be aired in January. 

Benjamin Nash had a poem accepted by Pilgrimage .

Kaye Voigt Abikhaled 's poem, "Autumn" was published in  Phoenix New Life Poetry.  Winter 2018-2019, No. 70.

Kaye Abikhaled had a haiku, 'Cold Winter Morning', tugged into page 18 of Lone Star Magazine #90. (Thank you, Milo Rosebud.)
