Austin Poetry Society Museletter
November Monthly Meeting

The Monthly Meeting will be November 16, 1:30-3pm at the Carver Public Library, 1161 Angelina St., Austin . The presenter is Sandi Horton. She will talk about Waco WordFest and how to submit to its anthology, discuss her ekphrastic poetry that has been on tour for over two years with textile artist Suzann Thompson, and perform poetry with original compositions played on a variety of native flutes

Bio: Sandi Horton is passionate about writing and performing poetry and music. In April 2019, Sandi performed at the ARAS Art and Psyche International Conference in Santa Barbara, CA. Sandi presented her poetry at the TACWT conferences in 2018 and 2019. S he was the 2018 Writer-in-Residence for Langdon Review of the Arts in Texas. Sandi on the Waco Cultural Arts Festival Board of Directors and currently serves on the Advisory Board. She has been the WCAF WordFest chairperson for 5 years and has the Anthology editor from 2016-2019. In Sept. 2016, Sandi co-founded the HOT (Heart of Texas) Poets Society. She compiled the 2018 anthology for the PST summer conference. Her poetry has been published in numerous anthologies and journals. She also has three books of published poetry My House of Poetry (2014), Where is Yonder? (2017), and Restore Thyself: Being in Granbury   (2018). Ten original music compositions performed by Sandi on her CD Native Flute Journeys  was released in June 2018. Sandi completed a BME (music) from Texas Tech University and a MS (Ed Psy.) from Baylor University. She worked in public schools as a band director and school counselor for 19 years. She and her husband Jeff have two granddaughters and a houseful of rescue dogs.

APS Board Profile
Christa Pandey recently rejoined the board as Member-at-Large after an absence of ten years. She had been 2nd VP in 2008 -10. During the
intervening years she honed her poetry, seeing it published locally, regionally and nationally. After her first chapbook (“Southern Seasons” from Finishing Line Press in 2011) she grew wings to publish two chapbooks on her own in 2013 (Maya, Hummingbird Wings). This summer she compiled a new chapbook “Who am I? Who are We?” which addresses her societal concerns. All chapbooks are available at Amazon.com.

TOMORROW'S POETS TODAY celebrates poetry by youth, who will be the poets of tomorrow. Please share this possibility of publication with any interested parties. We trust the Anthology of Youth Poetry will be published in April 2020 – National Poetry Month, which is why we seek your submissions now, with a deadline of December 1, 2019. Kallisto Gaia Press Contemporary Poetry Chapbook Prize - 28-48 pages of contemporary poetry. Member Publication News
Kaye V. Abikhaled, Counselor for the Austin area, was fortunate to attend APS' monthly poetry and music meeting. She read two of her poems to an attentive APS audience and was impressed how well Louise Gail Richardson handled the proceedings as M.C.  Answering the call for the need of a typewriter, Kaye donated her unused machine to Lynn Herrick at this occasion. Kaye will be featured at Parsons House, 1 130 Camino La Costa, Austin, November 10.

Jeffrey Taylor had "The Water Connects" published in WordFest 2019 anthology and "Desperately Made Boats" and "Poem in Two Voices" published in Blue Hole, the Georgetown Poetry Festival anthology.

Janelle Curlin-Taylor had "Through the Ozarks" published in Blue Hole, the Georgetown Poetry Festival anthology.

Waco WordFest

The Waco WordFest, October 4-6, featured Loretta Diane Walker. Mike Guinn gave a very supportive presentation. Both are well worth traveling to hear.

Georgetown Poetry Festival

Mike and Joyce Gullickson hosted the Georgetown Poetry Festival, October 19, at the Georgetown Library. Laurnce Musgrove did a workshop on the Cause and Effects of Happiness and Diana Conces workshopped her Poetry Game . Readings from the 2020 Texas Poetry Calendar and Blue Hole , the festival anthology followed.
