OCALICONLINE is THIS WEEK! November 15-18 | | |
OCALICON, the premier autism, sensory disabilities, low-incidence disabilities, and assistive technology conference, began as the Network of Autism Training and Technical Assistance Programs (NATTAP) in 2007, and continues to bring together a cross-section of professionals and parents who utilize a variety of products and services at home, work, and in the community. The conference by OCALI (Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence) offers sessions that target a breadth of disabilities including autism spectrum disorder, sensory disabilities, complex and low-incidence disabilities, as well as session offerings for intellectual, developmental, and learning disabilities.
For 13 years, the conference was held in OCALI’s hometown of Columbus, Ohio, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center before moving online in 2020 and adopting the name OCALICONLINE. This year marks the 16th anniversary – 16 years of inspiring change, promoting access, and transforming inspiration into action.
Whether working across the lifespan, across agencies or across the world, OCALI’s goal remains the same: To deliver a world-class learning experience that inspires change and promotes access to opportunities for people with disabilities. OCALI delivers on that goal because they believe in the power and possibilities inherent to interactions involving passionate people; in cultivating meaningful opportunities for sharing ideas, achievements, and success; and that inspiring change and promoting access happen when there is a continuum of understanding, conversation, and exchange. OCALI builds upon these values and goals at OCALICON.
Make sure not to miss our CEO, Mary Helen Richer, who will be giving two presentations, one titled Autistic Burnout with Lori Hagenkamp on Tuesday, November 15 4-5 p.m. and the other titled Prioritizing Safety with Anne Tapia and Tulika Prasad on Thursday, November 17 1:45-2:45 p.m.
You can still register to attend this year’s online conference at the linked button below!

In a Different Key Movie Screening on PBS
Tuesday, December 13 9/8c
| |
In a Different Key is based on the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book, In a Different Key, written by journalists Caren Zucker and John Donvan. The movie shows a true story of love, autism, and the fight to belong. The film features a mother who tracks down the first person ever diagnosed with autism to a rural Mississippi town to learn whether his life story holds promise for her own autistic son. Her journey exposes a startling record of cruelty and kindness alike-framed by forces like race, money, and privilege. She ultimately finds hope for a future with greater acceptance for those who are considered different.
For the first time, the In a Different Key movie will be premiering on PBS stations nationwide, and will be simultaneously streamed across all station-branded PBS platforms, including PBS.org and the PBS Video app. The initial premier is on Tuesday, December 13 at 9/8c, but it will be available to stream on the PBS site and app mentioned for 30 days following the preview.
