Happy Holidays!
Here's What to Look Forward to in 2020
|
|
This year has been a busy transition time for our coalition. We want to thank all of our regional partners and friends for your continued support.
With 2020 just around the corner, here's a brief preview of what to expect from our coalition in the new year.
- Renewed Focus on Idle Reduction in our Community. While it's our goal to advance the adoption of alternative fuel vehicles, the vast majority of vehicles on the road remain gasoline or diesel powered. The need for A/C use in South Florida means that idle reduction is particularly challenging here. There are technologies available that can keep the air condition and vehicle accessories running without tailpipe emissions. Together, lets redouble our efforts on this front!
- Fleet Focused Ride & Drive Events. We aim to provide a direct experience and benefit to our area fleets as they consider alternative fuel vehicles. Let us know how we can help you and your organization.
- Development of Technical Training Programs Work with our regional partners to develop (or expand) operator and maintenance technical training programs focused on alternative fuel and electric vehicles.
- Expansion of Autonomous Vehicle Efforts Coming out of the Autonomous, Connected, Electric, and Shared Information Session (detailed in the Coalition Comments section below), it's clear that there is interest in expanding regional work and collaboration in this area.

On November 20th the Southeast Florida Clean Cities Coalition, in partnership with the Tampa Bay Clean Cities Coalition, hosted an information session for local, regional, and state stakeholders in the City of Miami.
Speakers included Dr. Louis Merlin from Florida Atlantic University’s School of Urban & Regional Planning, who presented on the challenges and opportunities that ACES technology presents for planners.
Mike Laughlin of the Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technology Office presented on current and future states of ACES technology. Michael Feldman, Director of the
Ultimate Urban Circulator program (U2C)
at the Jacksonville Transportation Authority, discussed the future transformation and expansion of the current Jacksonville Skyway into one of the nation’s first dedicated autonomous transit networks. David L. Dunn, from the City of Orlando, presented ideas on preparing fleets for electric vehicle charging and laying the foundation for the adoption of ACES at the fleet level.
The SFRPC’s Southeast Florida Clean Cities Coalition Coordinator moderated a Q&A session among the attendees and presenters. At the conclusion of the event, attendees were invited to participate in test demonstrations of autonomous vehicles that were part of the wider Florida Automated Vehicles (FAV) Summit.
Thank you to our great speakers, our partners at the Tampa Bay Clean Cities Coalition, Clean Cities interns Allyson Williams and Alicia Kerr, and to all attendees who participated in the event!
