Assessment and Certification Operations

As most of you are aware, yesterday the College resumed on-ground and distance learning (DL) Assessment Center operations (with the exception of South Campus Assessment Center). As discussed in a prior update, the current CDC individual room capacity guidelines and social distancing limitations have greatly diminished on-ground and DL testing capacities to approximately 25% of the capacity we were previously testing. Please keep in mind these severely limited proctoring resources must be shared across the entire College.

SmarterServices Automated Proctoring Service

As discussed in yesterday's update, we are planning to launch an automated proctoring service hosted by SmarterServices. These examinations would be launched in Canvas and proctored by the automated proctoring service, or they could be a third-party examination, like MyMathLab, that is linked from Canvas and proctored via the SmarterServices automated proctoring. It is important to note that the automated proctoring service cannot handle physical paper examinations. For the automated proctoring service to administer paper-based examinations, they must be converted to Canvas examinations. We are hoping to be live in the new automated service on Monday, March 30, 2020. This service will be accessible for all modalities of classes (online, hybrid, and on-ground). Please also keep in mind that the College will be paying $5 for each assessment administered through the automated proctor.

To help introduce you to this new technology and prepare for the deployment, SmarterServices has scheduled a number of webinars through Zoom. Each webinar is scheduled to last approximately 45 minutes, followed by a Q & A section at the end of the presentation. Below are the dates and times for the planned webinars.
