SmarterServices Automated Proctoring Service

As a reminder, we are continuing to take steps to go-live with SmarterServices automated proctoring service (SmarterProctoring) on Monday, March 30, 2020. This service will be accessible to all modalities of classes (online, hybrid, and on-ground). Please also keep in mind that the College will be paying $5 for each assessment administered through SmarterProctoring.

Today at 3:00pm is the first webinar in a list of planned webinars walking you through the operation and functionality of SmarterProctoring. See full schedule below. SmarterProctoring is a user-friendly service that deploys the customized settings that the faculty member selects in an attempt to prevent students from any unauthorized activity. Possible settings that faculty members have control over include locking down the browser, disabling printing, disabling multiple screens, disabling new tabs, disabling the clipboard, disabling right click functions, and forcing the student's display into full screen. The student's photo ID is recorded at the start of the session for easy verification of each student. Not only is the student's webcam being recorded, but faculty members can opt to record the student's desktop as well as audio in the room. It is a robust platform that deploys various technologies to detect unauthorized activity.

After the examination is complete, the faculty member has immediate access to the recording of the examination session, with items that the automated tool has marked as a possible incidents, for quick and easy review. There is no need to review the entire session only items where the automated proctor has indicated that a possible incident (annotation) has occurred. Examples where SmarterProctoring will annotate the video for recommended review include missing face, multiple faces, face swap, talking, application change, and if the student attempts items that you have selected as not accessible during the examination (attempting to print, opening another window or tab, etc.).

We are very excited as we continue to move forward to the planned go-live date for SmarterProctoring.

ProctorU

Once we go live in SmarterProctoring, ProctorU will be disabled in Canvas/SmarterServices. This means that the only way to utilize ProctorU will be to set up a personal account with ProctorU and upload your examination to ProctorU and direct students to ProctorU to complete the examination. Please keep in mind a two hour examination in ProctorU will cost the student $25, while SmarterProctoring will be free to all of our students. Also, please keep in mind any assessments that have been scheduled in ProctorU will remain executable in ProctorU even after we go-live in SmarterProctoring. If you would like more information regarding using ProctorU after we go-live in SmarterProctoring please reach out to Dr. Judy Jones-Liptrot, Deerwood Assessment and Certification Manager. Dr. Liptrot may be reached at jajones@fscj.edu .
