Autumn News & Offers from Cowes Harbour Services
Over the past few months, Cowes Harbour Services (CHS) has carried out surveys of all our pontoons on the River Medina and we are now looking to upgrade and replace a mix of residents’ and visitors’ pontoons this winter. We are fortunate to have a wide range of berths to suit most types of vessels so I would like to encourage boat owners to get in touch if you’re looking for an annual mooring in the Central Solent.

The next major project for our CHS afloat team will be the removal of the SCRA (Solent Cruising & Racing Association) race marks in November, followed by repairs and careful repainting of each one ahead of the next season.

I hope you enjoy reading our autumn newsletter containing our latest customer offers, plus a behind-the-scenes report on delivering moorings for Cowes SailGP, and an interesting article about The Association of Dunkirk Little Ships.

Winter boat storage - offer ends soon!
If you are looking to lay up your boat this winter, then do get in touch with our friendly team at Cowes Harbour Services Boatyard before the end of this month.

Come ashore before 31st October 2019 and stay until April 2020* and you will receive 7 days of free boat storage. Just send an email to boatyard.chc@cowes.co.uk with your boat details and we will organise everything for you.

*All vessels must be launched during April 2020.
Winter self-storage solutions
It is recommended to remove cushions and soft furnishings from boats over the winter because they will stay drier and make your vessel less damp and less susceptible to mildew. If you are looking for somewhere to store yachting equipment, there is an easy winter solution at the Cowes Harbour Storage self-storage facility, also on the Boatyard site at Kingston Wharf in East Cowes. Just rent a self-storage unit to de-clutter your boat, allowing you to stow away any cushions, spare sails, tenders, outboards and any surplus equipment.

CHS moorings expertise on show for Cowes SailGP
Cowes Harbour Services (CHS) are specialists in the design, supply, and positioning of mooring systems and navigational or racing marks. The CHS team started initial planning for the Cowes SailGP regatta back in November 2018, and this continued right up to August 2019 when actual delivery of the contracted operations commenced. CHS provided design and technical support for two launching moorings and 12 presentation moorings split between Southampton and Cowes. This project included working to exacting and specific design criteria to safely accommodate SailGP’s high tech F50 wingsailed catamarans.

Return to Dunkirk 2020
The 13.4m Nelson motorboat Boscawen was recently at Cowes Harbour Services Boatyard and we caught up with owner Graham Hitchcock to find out more about the Dunkirk Little Ships and Boscawen’s forthcoming part in the 80th Anniversary Return to Dunkirk next May.

Between Thursday, 21st May and Monday, 25th May 2020, writes Graham Hitchcock , a fleet of Dunkirk Little Ships will be making their way from Ramsgate to Dunkirk to commemorate the 80th anniversary of “Operation Dynamo”, as they have done since the first ‘Return to Dunkirk’ was undertaken by 43 boats in 1965. Currently plans are being prepared with the support of the Royal Navy, MCA Dover Coastguard, the Ramsgate Lifeboat, and other participating organisations.
