Be Connected

Over my years of ministering with Rick in the GLD, we found that the most effective way to connect, encourage, and resource our GLD pastors’ wives was through planned events with their husbands. So many of our pastors’ wives work outside the home to meet the needs of their families, and their time for extra connections outside of their church is limited.

Thus, our three focused connections became:

  1. Annual GLD Conference pastors’ wives’ affinity group
  2. Pastors and wives’ retreats
  3. Regional dinner gatherings

Be Encouraged

Rick and I both appreciated this year’s retirement conference. The kindnesses by way of gifts and words of appreciation meant so much!

I missed the Pastors’ Wives’ Affinity group because of pain and swelling above my ankle. It was diagnosed later that day as a stress fracture. I’m wearing a short boot cast for several weeks to help it heal.

I’ll share what I planned to say and pray during our affinity session. As I reflect on my 20 years in the GLD ministering alongside Rick, I’ll use the flow of my Rooting Review from Haggai in my book, UpRooted by God’s Design. (Pg. 108)

The Lord Knows

The Lord knew that our move from the Texas District to the GLD would cause both of us to grow in ministry and give us time to be near our adult kids and elderly parents.

The Lord Questions

The Lord consistently asked us the question in Haggai 1:4, “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” We sought to align our goals and values with His challenge and direction.

The Lord Challenges

“This is what the Lord Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways.” (1:5-7)

The Lord Directs

“Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the Lord.” (1:8)

Our Response

As Zerubbabel, Joshua, and the whole remnant obeyed the voice of the Lord their God in 1:12, our desire and focus was to obey His voice to build His church that He might take pleasure and be honored.”

The Lord Resources

Then Haggai, the Lord’s messenger, gave this message of the Lord to the people: “I am with you,” declares the Lord.” (1:13) We can testify that the Lord’s promise to be with us resourced us throughout these 20 years.

Our prayer for you will be, “So the Lord stirred up the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty.” (1:14)

As the Lord leads us on and each of you continue on... let’s “Work on the house of the Lord Almighty.”
