Autumn Delights Visitors at Mt. Rainier National Park
Here are Important Dates to Remember:
  • Sunrise Visitor Center is open till September 23.
  • Paradise Inn is open till October 1. 
  • Nisqually Entrance to Longmire is open all winter.
  • Longmire to Paradise is open all winter, but uphill gate closes nightly.
  • Ohanapecosh Campground is open till October 8.
  • Henry M Jackson Visitor Center is open daily till October 8.
  • Sunrise Road from White River Campground to Sunrise is open till October 22.
  • These roads are open till October 29, or until first heavy snowfall:
    • Paradise Valley Road,
    • White River Road (lower Sunrise Road) to SR 410
    • Stevens Canyon Road
  • Open till November 19 or earlier depending on snowfall:
    • Cayuse Pass - Hwy 123
    • Chinook Pass - Hwy 410

Mushrooms and Huckleberries

To maintain sustainable berry and mushroom populations, permits are now required for everyone who plans to harvest them on the forest , including those who harvest for personal consumption.

Permits for personal use are free and are available online only    A person may pick up to one gallon of berries per day and up to three gallons of berries per year with a  free use permit. Mushrooms limit is

The White Pass Scenic Byway, U.S. Highway 12, extending from I-5 to Naches is an exceptional journey, offering travelers experiences of wildlife, outstanding scenic and natural landscapes, and unlimited outdoor recreation. The location between Mt. Rainier National Park and Mt. St. Helens National Monument and Mt. Adams is a premier recreation destination. 
The primary funding is granted through the Lewis County Lodging Tax. Some activities are enhanced with additional sponsor funding from our partners and supporters. Our mission is to promote all there is to see and do along the Byway. Each sponsor will receive one featured advertisement in our monthly newsletter.
