Business spotlight: Community Improvement Plan Boosts Georgetown Storefront

HALTON HILLS, ON – The Town of Halton Hills is proud to announce the successful completion of a façade improvement project in downtown Georgetown, supported through the Community Improvement Plan (CIP). On October 15, Councilors Norris, and Garneau, together with the Town’s Economic Development staff, presented Accountants on Main with a grant cheque for $12,045.74 to support the revitalization of their property.
Accountants on Main is a Chartered Professional Accountants firm in Halton Hills, ON, offering comprehensive accounting, taxation, and business advisory services. For over twenty years, they have served Georgetown and the surrounding area, combining large-firm expertise with a personalized, small-town approach.

AgriInnovate Program
The program provides repayable contributions to incent targeted commercialization, demonstration and/or adoption of commercial-ready innovative technologies and processes that increase agricultural and agri-food sector competitiveness and sustainability benefits.
Funding
The maximum Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) contribution toward a project will normally not exceed $5,000,000.
Deadline: From October 9 to October 30, 2025, interested applicants should contact the program.

AgriScience Program
The AgriScience Program, under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), aims to accelerate innovation by providing funding and support for pre-commercial science activities and research that benefits the agriculture and agri-food sector and Canadians.
Funding
The maximum total funding available to you under the projects component of the program is $10 million over the duration of the program (2023 to 2028).
Deadline: Applications will be accepted until funding has been fully committed.

Green Freight Program
The Green Freight Program will help fleets reduce their fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions through fleet energy assessments, fleet retrofits, engine repowers, logistical best-practice implementation and the purchase of low carbon vehicles. This will be administered through two key funding streams.
Funding:
The maximum amount payable for eligible activities under Stream 1 is $250,000 per applicant.
Deadline: March 31, 2027.

Regional Economic Growth through Innovation
Southern Ontario businesses are key to Canada’s global competitiveness and long-term prosperity. FedDev Ontario is investing to build and compete by supporting companies to adopt cutting-edge solutions, enhance productivity, break into new markets and build for the future.
Funded Activities:
- Developing, commercializing and/or producing new and innovative products, processes and services
- Improving productivity, capacity and competitiveness
- Scaling-up or expanding business lines to tap into new markets or reach new customers
Funding:
Applicants normally request a minimum of $125,000 up to a maximum of $10 million per project in repayable contribution funding.
Deadline: Applications accepted on a continuous basis.

Strategic Innovation Fund
Managed by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) plays a key role in providing support for innovative projects in Canada through:
- simplified application processes
- responsive, results-oriented assistance
SIF provides funding for 2 categories of projects, each with their own set of requirements:
Funding:
The minimum SIF contribution amount is $10 million for projects with total costs of at least $20 million. The amount you request from SIF should be based on your project needs. The funding can be repayable or non-repayable contribution depending on the project.
Deadline: Rolling intake.

Kosher and Halal Investment Program
The SCAP Kosher and Halal Investment Program provides a federal business funding opportunity to help enhance kosher and halal meat processing efficiency. Funding supports initiatives aimed at boosting productivity, with clear objectives including:
- Mitigating Challenges: Assisting the Canadian red meat sector (beef and veal) in adhering to Judaic or Islamic slaughter laws
- Increasing Efficiency: Enhancing processing and production efficiency of kosher and/or halal red meat in Canadian slaughter establishments
Funding:
Nonrepayable contribution covering up to 50% of eligible expenses, to a maximum of $2 million per applicant.
Deadline: September 1, 2026.

| Schneider Electric opens massive Halton Hills distribution centre |
| Schneider Electric Canada has opened a new 130,000-square-foot distribution centre in Halton Hills. Located at 6 Cleve Crt. in Georgetown, the new facility opened Oct. 15 and will serve customers in the commercial, industrial, residential, and infrastructure sectors. Operated in partnership with CEVA Logistics, the centre is expected to create more than 35 local jobs while bolstering Schneider Electric’s supply chain resilience. |

Weekend GO train service coming to Halton Hills

For the first time, GO trains will run regular service through Halton Hills on the weekend. The province says it will expand GO train service along the Kitchener line, and will include four weekend trips in the area, beginning Sunday, Nov. 23. It’s part of a large update to GO train service along the line, announced by the province Thursday. Most of the updates are focused in the GTA. For local residents, the four existing trips that started and stopped at Mount Pleasant GO will run further west, through Halton Hills into Kitchener. |
