Hello and welcome to autumn,
Last week's Labour Party conference has now come to a close, with Andy Burnham setting out plans for a new National Care Service and a renewed emphasis on growth across the country. His speech highlighted the importance of giving communities and local leaders greater power to shape their own futures. This plays into the encouragement of place-based giving throughout the country, which is at last starting to emerge and was considered in some of the side events like the Centre for Social Justice's 'Supercharging Regional Giving' discussion.
Many of the major charities were also there in person; it was interesting to see that Barnardo’s was one of the sponsors - many charities take stands and participate to bring the voices of young people into relevant debates.
In the wider philanthropy world, it is without doubt conference season. Like many of our friends and colleagues in the education world we are gearing up for the CASE Europe Annual Conference in Edinburgh in November. This is the major conference for those involved in fundraising and advancing their institutions across the higher education, schools and wider educational sectors. Many of our consulting team and clients will be speaking on expert panels and we will of course, be at our stand – come and see us if you are there or reach out to me or gordon@philanthropycompany.com to fix a coffee!
We will also be at NPC Ignites in mid-October. This conference, chaired by Patricia Hamzahee OBE, focuses on the impact economy and brings charity leaders together with foundations and other purpose driven organisations. Let flora@philanthropycompany.com know if you are attending so you can find time to catch up.
If you are heading to Conference 2026: Museums Connecting Communities, the Museums Association conference in Birmingham, do get in touch with annalise@philanthropycompany.com.
Our presence and work in Scotland continues to expand (see our work with the University of Glasgow) and this month we are opening a presence in Edinburgh to complement our London and Oxford offices and reflect our increasing national reach.
All of us are always up for an exploratory chat about how we might be able to help or just to swap notes on the challenges of the sector so do reach out to stay in touch! enquiries@philanthropycompany.com.
Warmest
Caroline
