To seek God, and be Christ’s body in the world
Greetings!

The Clergy and Vestries of St. Martin's Church, Radnor and Christ Church, Ithan are very excited to share the jointly written Parish Profile for their search of a Rector to serve both churches. This document wonderfully lays out both the shared history and extraordinary opportunities that lay before these two communities in the years ahead. Please click the link below, read the profile carefully, and be a part of this inspiring conversation as the Holy Spirit does this new thing through all of us!

The Season of Sacred Portion
Time for Pledging

Our Season of Sacred Portion continues! Join us for the remaining Sundays, October 27th, November 3rd and 17th. Reflect during these special liturgies on our resources and the best ways to share them. This is a wonderful season of realizing abundance and taking care of what we have been given!
Sunday School
Faith in God. Faith in Family.

Our message this week will be based on the Old Testament story about Abraham and Sarah (Genesis Chapters 15, 17, 18). We will talk about having faith that God will bless our families. First at 9:30 AM, children will have a music rehearsal.

Then the children will go to the large Sunday School room to focus on parts of the story of Abraham's family wandering through the desert. God promised children to this older couple who had hoped and prayed for a baby of their own. Using Lego-style building blocks, the St. Martin's children will begin to interpret the story. Ages 3 through 5th grade are invited to join us with youth both assisting and taking pictures. By the end of the school year our Sunday School class will have stories from the Old Testament to display running up the stairs the way we have the New Testament now.

The nursery will be open with Megan, starting at 9:30 AM. Please contact Ms. Deb if you have any questions or would like to participate.
Music Ministry
The Children's Program

Our Children's Choir was a sweet part of the Families in Worship on October 13th. If your children missed it, there is a new opportunity on November 17th when we celebrate St. Martin's Day! Rehearsals for the choir will be at 9:30 AM on October 27th, November 3rd, and November 17th. If your children can't make all the rehearsals, please do not be concerned because we invite all children to participate every time the Children's Choir makes a joyful noise. The more voices the better on the 17th.
Yoga Class
Take a Stretch Break!

Yoga classes continue on Tuesdays at 6:30 PM in the Gurley Room. Plan on a relaxing time with The Rev. Amanda Eiman leading the session for all levels - beginners to experienced. Come on the 29th to stretch and destress!
Bible Study
The October/November Transition

October 30 will be the final week of the Bible Study at Christ Church, Ithan. We will meet from 7:15 to 8:15 PM. For the month of November, the Bible Study group will return to St. Martin's. All are welcome and no previous participation is required. Each week stands alone. Books are provided and guests are also invited to participate. Please plan to join us as we journey with Jesus to Jerusalem as told in the three synoptic Gospels. Contact Deb Parker if you have any questions.

SWIC News
Chicken Farm Initiative

The SWIC organization is working hard to launch the next four farms this fall before the weather turns in November. You can continue to make an enormous difference
• first by funding chicks, and
• then by sharing this success story with your friends.
$5 - Buys one chick
$1,000 - Fully funds 200 chicks for a farmer
$6,000 - Sponsors the SWIC contribution for an entire chicken farm!
Dozens of farmers are lined up, waiting to restart their farms as soon as we can provide the one-time reconstruction funding. Thanks in advance for your support.

Preparing for Sunday
The Pharisee and the Publican

“...for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.” - Luke 18:14

Reflections:
"The Pharisee in this parable is blinded by his own self-deception and has no room for faith and trust in God....All fall short of the glory of God, so all need to rely on the Lord’s mercy — even those who may struggle less with sin than others. Until we understand that all of us suffer from some poverty in spirit and need God’s grace and mercy to see us through, then we will never see each other as sisters and brothers in need of love and mercy."

"What about us? Surely the Lord is saying to us in the parable that we have nothing to fear in approaching him just as we are. In fact, it is the correct way to approach God because otherwise we block God out from our life. Let us humbly admit our nothingness before God and our dependence on God like St. Paul. It is when we realize that we have nothing that we are ready to receive God’s grace."
