Lewis County is in the southwestern portion of the state and is the sixth largest county in Washington. The Chehalis and Cowlitz rivers are the two major rivers in the county. It consists of the I-5 Corridor, Lakes District, and the Mountains. Dominated by rural communities throughout the entire county has much appeal for those who would like to experience a more laid-back lifestyle.
The twin cities of Chehalis and Centralia both have a small-town vibe. Both cities straddle I-5 and are halfway between Seattle, WA and Portland, Oregon making commuting options a plus. In the town of Centralia is Centralia College which is the oldest continuously operating junior college in the state of Washington. It was founded September 14th, 1928. The twin city of Chehalis is the county seat of Lewis County. The cities compliment each other and have a lot to offer residents.
The small towns further to the south consist of just to name a few; Napavine, Winlock, and Toledo. What is called the Lake District runs along Hwy 12 going east into the rural communities such as Mossyrock which is home to one of the most popular recreational lakes, Riffe Lake and Lake Mayfield. The town of Mossyrock has that country zeal of rural life with the popular Blueberry Festival held annually in August. Smaller communities such as Silver Creek, Ethel, Salkum, and Onalaska comprise just a few of the towns in the general area.
The town of Morton is considered the eastern Lewis County hub as its city services includes banks and a regional hospital among other businesses. The further east you go into the foothills of the Cascades you come to Randle. The town itself is the northeastern access point to the Mount St. Helens Windy Ridge viewpoint, by way of less congested forest roads that cut through the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. Packwood which is unincorporated is east of Randle and is in the easternmost portion of Lewis County. It is approximately 7 miles to the Stevens Canyon Southeast entrance into the Mt. Rainier National Park.
