Amberley Village Environmental Stewardship Committee (ESC) has discussed at several meetings the benefits of Backyard Composting.
First let’s define what it is: Composting is the natural process of recycling organic matter, such as leaves and food scraps, into a valuable fertilizer.
Approximately 700 pounds of waste per household can be turned into compost instead of trash each year!
Reasons for starting composting in your backyard are:
· Reduces Solid Waste and Landfills
· Cuts Methane Emissions from Landfills
· Improves Soil Health and Prevents Erosion
There are many easy ways to start your own program. It can be as simple as tossing non-meat food scraps on the ground in an out-of-the way area of your yard.
