On October 30, we took joy in watching our own CEO, Kevin Zwick, receive a Commendation from the County of Santa Clara Board of Supervisors after a warm welcoming message from District 2 Supervisor Cindy Chavez.

Kevin Zwick Celebrates 10 Years Leading Housing Trust; Readies For Sabbatical
After ten years of leading Housing Trust Silicon Valley our CEO, Kevin Zwick, is taking a well-deserved three-month sabbatical.
It is easy to forget the scale of the changes the organization - and the greater Bay Area - has undergone in ten years. Kevin took the helm of Housing Trust in the fall of 2008 - while the U.S. financial system was collapsing. That year Housing Trust had a staff of three, the largest homeownership loan was $6,500 and the biggest loan to an affordable housing developer was $500,000. This year Housing Trust has a staff of 21, made a homeowner loan of $75,000 and recently made a $15 million loan -
the largest loan in our history.
The Housing Trust board enthusiastically endorsed the sabbatical and Housing Trust's interim CEO will be
Chief Financial Officer Julie Mahowald. Her leadership skills have been a fixture of the greater Bay Area for more than thirty years and she will address any and all issues or respond to any inquiries intended for Kevin.
Kevin will begin his sabbatical after the
14th Annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day in downtown San Jose and he will be back by the first week of March. We all stand in appreciation of his inspiring leadership at Housing Trust and wish him nothing but happiness for this time off!

CFO, Julie Mahowald, was there to give the crowd an update on our work and accept the presentation of a two-year grant from Bank of America to support even more of our affordable housing efforts.
The week
before
On The House our staff was enjoying an ordinary 'casual Friday' when Carolyn and Armando from City National Bank - another longtime and dedicated supporter - dropped by to present a grant.
We're grateful to have City National Bank and Bank of America as partners in lending and their history of generously giving to Housing Trust.

ADU Program Shows Off "Micro Unit" at Fall Event

Our ADU Program continued this fall and partnered with
SCCAOR®
to use a 155 s.f. "micro unit" as a centerpiece for back-to-back events.
The ADU was built by prefabADU, a Fairfield-based company specializing prefabricated homes that can be placed on any legal foundation - but placed on wooden blocks in the
SCCAOR®
parking lot for the demo.
The first event was held for public officials who wanted to understand more about ADUs in general and prefab construction in particular. The following day, the ADU Program held its quarterly ADU workshop with over sixty attendees and also had a tour of the ADU.
The next ADU event will be taking place in late January or early February and an additional staffer for the program is currently being sought as the program expands. Be sure to join Housing Trust's ADU interest list to be filled in with all the details!

The 14th annual Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot is just around the corner: Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 22nd) in downtown San Jose.
Led by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group Foundation, the Turkey Trot benefits Housing Trust and other great area nonprofits: The Health Trust, Second Harvest Food Bank, Food Bank of Santa Cruz County, and the Healthier Kids Foundation of Santa Clara County.
Proceeds collected from the Turkey Trot go to our Finally Home program and Housing Trust has gathered $2.3 million from Turkey Trot over the past 13 years - and that has helped a lot of people experiencing homelessness.
