ORLANDO, FL, April 29, 2015 --- Avalon Park Group announced today that they have entered into an agreement with Charter Schools Development Group, LLC to build a K-8 STEM and Art School in Avalon Park. The agreement came as a result of thorough work to continue developing an alternative relief school plan since the April 21st Orange County Board of County Commissioners meeting, where Avalon Park Group presented a plan to build five school buildings to provide much needed relief in the Avalon Park corridor. Beat Kahli, President and CEO of Avalon Park Group, stated, "I am grateful to the School Board and County for listening to our proposal to bring aid to the overcrowding situation in East Orlando." At Monday's meeting with the School Board to review Avalon Park Group's proposed alternative plan, Chairman Sublette announced that Orange County Public Schools would be able to open their relief school for the 2016/2017 school year. Kahli stated, "We are pleased to hear that the School Board is confident in opening relief by 2016, which was our ultimate goal. We remain open minded and are willing to follow through with our proposed plan at any time to help, should there be any road blocks that arise on the Timber Springs site, which would cause the delay of a 2016 opening. Although it was stated yesterday that there are still challenges with the Timber Springs site, including County opposition, environmental concerns and high development costs, we heard loud and clear from the School Board and Chairman Sublette that our plan was not viable to them and that we are not part of their process. We do not wish to stand in the way. We presented our proposal, but will now step back and let the governmental bodies work together to come to an understanding on their proposed site." "Our group has worked around the clock over the past week on the alternative plan to ensure the children of east Orlando will have a relief school open in 2016" said Kahli. "While OCPS continues to move ahead with their site, we are also moving forward diligently with our plan." Avalon Park Group has entered into an agreement with Charter Schools Development Group, LLC to build the best STEM and Art K-8 School. The school, which will be located in the Avalon Park South Village, can begin construction in the Fall of 2015 and will open in 2016. The school will serve students from the Avalon Park area. The Avalon STEM and Art School is being designed to create an exciting academic environment that includes state-of-the-art classrooms, a multi-purpose room that can be used as a cafeteria as well as a space for general assemblies and indoor recreational activities, science labs, computer labs, dedicated music studio and art studio. Through the new agreement, the plan is to further enhance the school with both STEM and advanced Arts. Advanced safety measures will include a double-entry door security feature and security cameras throughout the building. Bright spacious hallways have been designed for maximum traffic flow with minimal congestion. Outdoor amenities will include the co-located soccer and sports fields and an elementary-age appropriate covered playground as an outdoor basketball court.
