Welcome to 2025! I am entering this year with a sense of optimism inspired by new programs; new construction; a solid financial performance; an engaged Board of Directors; and an amazing, productive team of employees. The Avesta Housing Board has also begun the search for our new president and CEO, representing an exciting new chapter in our history.
As recently reported on the front page of the Portland Press Herald, Avesta’s Homeownership + Financial Counseling department (formerly known as the HomeOwnership Center) has created a new program, “A Path Forward – Homeownership for ME,” to acquire and rehabilitate properties that are in disrepair, then sell them at below-market prices to qualifying households. Proceeds from the home sales will be used to fund future home acquisitions and rehabilitations. We are also embarking on a new collaboration to develop workforce housing to meet the growing need within our local communities.
Our Real Estate Development team will be busy shepherding 1,000 units through our development pipeline, including several new construction starts. Meanwhile, our Property Management, Resident Services, and Assisted Living teams are doing a terrific job providing quality homes and services to our 3,600 residents.
We had great mission success in 2024 improving lives and strengthening communities, and we look forward to expanding on that this year. Happy New Year!
— Eric Boucher, Interim President & CEO
