Avisery Alert: CMS Issues Guidance to MA & Part D Plans to Respond to COVID-19
Dear Avisery Members,

We would like to share a memorandum issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that outlines important flexibilities of Medicare Advantage (MA) and Part D plans to waive certain requirements to help the spread of COVID-19. The flexibilities of MA and Part D plans to remove barriers that could prevent or delay beneficiaries from receiving care include:

  • Waiving prescription refill limits
  • Removing prior authorization requirements
  • Relaxing restrictions on home and mail delivery of prescription drugs
  • Waiving cost-sharing for COVID-19 tests
  • Waiving cost-sharing for COVID-19 treatments in doctors’ offices or emergency rooms and services delivered via telehealth
  • Expanding access to certain telehealth services
