Avisery Alert: New 2024 AABD Medicaid and MSP Income and Asset Limits

The Illinois Department of Health and Family Services (HFS) has released the 2024 income and asset limits for their medical programs, including AABD Medicaid and Medicare Savings Program (MSP) that are in effect April 1, 2024. DHS has also made a correction to the 2023 MSP asset limit for two-person households that was recorded in error. AgeOptions has updated the Chart of Benefits to reflect these changes.

CHART OF BENEFITS

Attached below you will find the updated AgeOptions Chart of Benefits. This chart is intended as a resource tool for professionals to use when screening clients for benefit programs. The chart lists income, assets, and a quick overview of eligibility requirements for various public programs in Illinois including Medicaid, Medicare Savings Programs, Extra Help, the Benefits Access Program, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), LIHEAP, SNAP (Food Stamps), Access to Care, Community Spousal Impoverishment and other programs.

Please note that this chart is designed for professionals and should not be altered or distributed to consumers. The chart is meant as a quick reference tool (a "cheat sheet") and does not provide detailed explanations for consumers about how each program works.

MSP ASSET CORRECTION AND CHANGES

DHS has made a correction to the 2023 MSP asset limit for two-person households. The DHS website incorrectly listed the asset limit for two-person households as $15,160. The figure has been corrected to $13,630. In alignment with this change, the asset limit for a two-person household will increase from $13,630 to $14,130 in 2024. Also, the asset limit for a single person household will increase from $9,090 to $9,430.

The asset limit for AABD (Aid the to the Aged, Blind and Disabled) has stayed the same at $17,500 for both a single and two-person household. For more information on the 2024 Medicaid income and asset limits, please click here.
