U.S. SLOWING, BUT AVOIDING RECESSION
The nation’s business economists expect U.S. economic growth to decelerate this year and next, but for the economy to avoid stumbling into recession.

The latest survey by 53 forecasters with the National Association for Business Economics shows that they expect economic growth to slow from 2.9% last year to 2.3% in 2019 and 1.8% in 2020.

Neil Bradley, executive vice president and chief policy officer at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, has spent two decades working directly with congressional committee chairpersons and other high-ranking policymakers to achieve solutions. At the U.S. Chamber, Bradley is responsible for aligning the organization’s overall policy priorities and advocacy efforts.

The Dow Jones was up more than 18 percent for 2019 as of midweek. The Nasdaq Composite was up more than 29 percent. The S&P 500 gained more than 24 percent. But the news about the stock market has been easy to ignore in the Tacoma-Pierce County market because of the ongoing paucity of local publicly traded companies.

Tacoma approved the construction of a  micro shelter site  for the homeless at 802 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, down the street from People’s Park.

The Tacoma News Tribune laid out a top-5 list on what to expect on December 19th.
