Congregational Meeting last Sunday
For the first time ever, Avondale held a virtual congregational meeting! Avondalers gathered on Sunday, June 28 on Zoom for a meeting to elect members of the nominating committee, receive the 2019 Annual Report, and approve the Terms of Call for Rev. Jim Ewing. The Terms of Call and Annual Report were both approved.

Nominating Committee Elected
The congregation elected David Hall, Janet Harrison, and Deidrea Pavlin to serve on the 2020 Nominating Committee along with Nancy Bohrer and Alice Cuviello who were appointed by session as Elder Representatives.

Re-Opening Task Force Update
The re-opening task force has been meeting to discuss up to date information regarding COVID-19 and how to safely allow for in person gatherings at Avondale. While we are still quite away from being able to worship together, we are working on being able to provide opportunities for small gatherings of classes and small groups.
At this time small groups can begin gathering on the church campus for the purpose of meetings, fellowship and study. In an effort to manage the use of space and allow for proper cleaning, please use email or call Jessica Shanks to reserve a room. To ensure the safety of all, we ask that you wear a mask when meeting on campus and when possible, use a fan and prop doors open for better air circulation. Hand sanitizer will be provided in each room along with disinfectant wipes to wipe down hard surface areas prior to leaving.
Mission & Devotion
Avondale has a long history of supporting the Urban Ministry Center. Last year, Urban Ministry and Men's Shelter of Charlotte merged, in an effort to consolidate and strengthen their common mission. They announced their new name is "Roof Above." We are inviting all to help support a Roof Above by providing items from their Wish List. Donations can be taken directly or be dropped-off at Avondale Church Office at these times: Wednesdays - July 1 and 8, between 1:30 and 6 PM.
Available for pick-up these same times are "These Days" Devotionals! Jessica Shanks will be in the office to receive items and give out devotionals.
Vacation Bible School
Avondale’s 2020 VBS theme is “Feet that follow: Awesome are YOUR feet! They carry God’s love wherever you go!” It's a free, staycation camp of fun and more July 20-24. Interested? We invite families to sign-up! You will receive a “list of materials needed” the week prior. Please spread the word, the fun is open to all.
Daily Devotional

From Sacred Space
Dear Avondale Family, Our Sacred Space committee wanted to share a brief update. With the current economic uncertainty of the country we don't feel that it is prudent to move forward to the next phase of our capital campaign. Our hope and prayer is that by the middle to late fall, the pandemic will be subsiding and there will be a better sense of what the economic future looks like. At that time we should be able to communicate to you the next phase in the process. We continue to thank you for your patience and understanding during this time of discernment.
Panel Discussion last Sunday
Rev. Jim Ewing hosted a Panel Discussion on June 21. We'd like to give a grateful "THANK YOU" to our panelists: Rev. Veronica Cannon, Dr. Rev. Jerry Cannon, and Ann Sanders. Thank you to all who came to listen and share. Approximately 25-30 people were in attendance. Following are resources mentioned in the discussion.
