Panel Discussion this Sunday
I have shared with you that a couple of weeks ago I happened to be in a committee meeting with several folks from different areas of the community. Some of the people in the conversation were African American and hearing from their perspective about their experiences these last couple of weeks was powerful for me.
We wanted to provide a similar experience for you, so this Sunday, June 21 at 12 noon, we have invited Rev. Veronica Cannon, former Interim here at Avondale, and Ann Sanders, who sits on the board of Community Building Initiative here in Charlotte and is also a member of Avondale, to a panel discussion. The conversation will be initiated through Zoom so come with your own questions or simply listen and join us for this significant time together. Find the Zoom link on our website  or this Sunday's bulletin email.
Congregational Meeting next Sunday
A virtual congregational meeting has been called by the Session for Sun, June 28 at 11 AM on Zoom. The purpose of this meeting is to elect members of the nominating committee and to receive the 2019 Annual Report.

Please review the report prior to the meeting at the link below. If you have any questions about information within the report, please submit them to Jessica Shanks and they will be added to the meeting agenda.

Re-Opening Task Force Update
The re-opening task force has been meeting to discuss up to date information regarding COVID-19 and how to safely allow for in person gatherings at Avondale. While we are still quite away from being able to worship together, we are working on being able to provide opportunities for small gatherings of classes and small groups. At this time small groups can begin gathering on the church campus for the purpose of meetings, fellowship and study.
In an effort to manage the use of space and allow for proper cleaning, please use email or call Jessica Shanks to reserve a room. To ensure the safety of all, we ask that you wear a mask when meeting on campus and when possible, use a fan and prop doors open for better air circulation. Hand sanitizer will be provided in each room along with disinfectant wipes to wipe down hard surface areas prior to leaving.
Vacation Bible School
Avondale’s 2020 VBS theme is “Feet that follow: Awesome are YOUR feet! They carry God’s love wherever you go!” Interested? We invite families to sign-up to express interest. You will receive a “list of materials needed” the week prior.
ABC Ministry
Plans are underway for Bethlehem Center Summer Camp. The summer session begins June 22. Approximately 30 children/youth will participate in summer camp. They will utilize the FLC and the three youth rooms as well as outdoors. No field trips are planned for this year. Justin, Keosha and two other staff members will be on Avondale’s campus this summer.

Additionally we are pleased to share that two middle school boys are attending Camp Grier this week!

Mr. Borden "Bordie" McCloskey
February 19, 1946 - June 2, 2020
It is with deep sadness that we share that Mr. Borden "Bordie" McCloskey joined the Church Triumphant Tuesday, June 2, 2020. Bordie was a well loved and faithful member of Avondale for over 40 years! Due to our current circumstances concerning the pandemic, a celebration of life is postponed and arrangements will be shared at a later date. obituary
Mr. Jack Bearman
It is with deep sadness that we share that Jacqueline Howells, our Financial Coordinator, lost her father, Jack Bearman, on June 4, 2020. This was unexpected and a shock to her, her mother and two sisters. They had a small family service in Arizona, where her parents live. A larger celebration of his life will be held later, once family and friends can be together.
