World Communion Sunday

World Communion Sunday, held annually on the first Sunday of October, is a celebration of the unity of the worldwide church through Christ. Christians in congregations around the world participate in the Lord's Supper.

Kids Café is Meals for Kids - next is Oct 11
Kids Café, part of our ABC (Avondale & Bethlehem Center) Ministry has begun. This program serves kids a fresh, warm meal on a Friday, twice a month, before they head home for the weekend. As of right now, this will be hosted  at Avondale  from 4:30 - 6 PM. This is an easy, quick and FUN way to contribute. Sign-up with a friend?

Bunco Fun - Oct 4
Bunco meets this Friday at 6:30 PM. Ladies of all ages are invited to join us for Fellowship, Laughter, German and American food, a $5 donation to a mission, and, of course, to play BUNCO. Call Brenda Coble 980-297-4997 if you would like to join in the fun.
Dinner with Friends - Oct 8
This social group enjoys fellowship and food and more on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM, meeting at different restaurant each month. This month, it's Carolina Prime Steakhouse at 225 E Woodlawn Rd. Interested to join, contact Kay DeArmon at 704-421-8721.
Basketball Ministry
Basketball season has begun and registration is open now through Oct. 14. After the 14th, it's late registration and rate. Avondale participates in the Playbook for Life ministries league, providing an opportunity for youth to participate in a Christ-centered team sports program. Scottish Country Dancing - at Avondale
Would you like to have fun and stay fit? Can you tell your right hand from your left? Then Scottish country dancing could be for you! Come enjoy an exciting and energetic activity for you or the whole family. It's also a great way to keep in touch with our Scottish (Presbyterian) heritage! Join us in the Family Life Center from 1-3 PM on these dates:

ASAP - Oct 28 @12 PM
ASAP meets Oct 28 in Fellowship Hall. Our mission for the remainder of the year is to collect flip tabs from cans to contribute to the Ronald McDonald House. Every 4 lbs. of tabs will help a family be near their child during difficult times. We ask all our congregation to help us collect! Give your flip tabs to an ASAP member or office. Many thanks for your help.

Thurs, Oct 24 @5:30 PM in church parking lot for ACC & church preschool aged children. Evening kicks-off with parade. Parents & friends, come in costume with vehicle trunk decorated & candy ready!
ACC Book Fair

Homecoming Weekend Celebrating Our 75th Anniversary
Sat, Oct 12 - "75 Years of Music" & History Open House
4 PM in the Sanctuary, Refreshments follow and history displays throughout campus.
Sun, Oct 13 - Worship at 11 AM followed by our Homecoming Luncheon* & History Open House continues
*PLEASE RSVP if you are attending the luncheon! Having a head count is essential for food and table and chairs rental.

Volunteer with Homecoming
Volunteers are needed to help with the Anniversary Luncheon on Oct 13. Please let Suzi Thornberry know if you can help with the following tasks:
  • Saturday morning: set-up tables and tents, prep for Sunday and decorate
  • Sunday prior to worship: finish table set-up outdoors, prep beverages, accept side dishes
  • During the luncheon: serve main dishes and oversee side dishes and beverages/ice
  • After the luncheon: Clean-up , wash dishes and breakdown tables and chairs    
Thank you for any and all help you can offer.
