"Mixing the Two"
(Part 2)
Mark 12: 13-17

The Question about Paying Taxes
13 Then they sent to him some Pharisees and some Herodians to trap him in what he said. 14 And they came and said to him, “Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and show deference to no one; for you do not regard people with partiality, but teach the way of God in accordance with truth. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the emperor, or not? 15 Should we pay them, or should we not?” But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, “Why are you putting me to the test? Bring me a denarius and let me see it.” 16 And they brought one. Then he said to them, “Whose head is this, and whose title?” They answered, “The emperor’s.” 17 Jesus said to them, “Give to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they were utterly amazed at him.

A Butterfly Release
As part of our online worship service!

Back in February and March, the children of Avondale Adventures sold butterflies as a fundraiser in support of the theme "Showing Our Love Through Action" based on Isaiah 58. These butterflies were purchased by you in memory and in honor of loved ones. All proceeds were used to purchase items from the Presbyterian Giving Catalog for our brothers and sisters in need around the world. Thanks be to God for these gifts!
Isaiah 58

In Isaiah 58 God tells us to SHOW our love of Him through action by sharing with others, caring for the sick, and teaching others about God. You are never to young to start doing these things! God has provided you with everything you need to to share His love. Sometimes it can be as simple as sharing a smile and saying hello to a stranger as they walk by.

Join us for the butterfly release today prior to worship and hear the impact our Avondale Adventures group was able to make around the world with one simple project!
What can you do this week to share God's love with someone else?
Dear God, Thank you for Your love and our many blessings. Help us to share those gifts with others. Amen.

"Show You Care - Task of the week"
This has been a challenging week for our teachers, families and children a they make the transition to remote learning. Let us join together is praying for them using a prayer written and shared by Rev. Jim Ewing.

God of Love and Life, we thank you for the blessing of our lives. For the excitement of new beginnings and the anticipation of a new school year. Please watch over our students and fill them with wonder and curiosity. Be with our teachers and administrators, blessing their talents, the knowledge they impart, and their commitment. Support our parents as they nurture, as they coordinate schedules and events, and as they strive to share your love with all of those that you have entrusted to them.

We offer this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, who taught all of us about you ~ Amen.
If you know of any member concerns or needs, please email Jim or call the church office and leave a message.

We look forward to welcoming the Bethlehem Center children and staff back to Avondale on Monday, August 24 as they begin the school year with remote learning.

The Back to School Bash Drive-Through at Avondale was a wonderful event! Many school supplies were collected for the Bethlehem Center children as they prepare for remote learning here at Avondale! If you are interested in contributing, there are still a few needed supplies. See the updated list below.

You may drop these items off at the church office Monday morning, Wednesday afternoon or Friday morning.

Thank you for your contribution!
