"From the Outside, In"
Matthew 25: 31 - 46

The Judgment of the Nations
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, 33 and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left. 34 Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; 35 for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ 40 And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’ 41 Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

Children's Moment
Parents, read over the lesson below and use it to stir conversation as a family!
When you are sick, is there someone there to check on you? What about when you are thirsty after playing outside, is there someone to help you get a glass of water? When you wake up for school, do you have clean clothes ready for you to wear?
Our families show their love for us in many ways and one of those ways is by caring for us when we are sick and providing us with a warm home, food when we are hungry and water when we are thirsty!

We are all God's children and He loves nothing more than seeing us care for one another. In our scripture lesson today we learn that when we show love to someone else by helping them and providing them with the things they need, we are helping and showing love to God.

Who can you show love to this week by extending a helping hand?

Dear God, help me to see the people in need and give me the courage to help. Amen.

Advent Stars

Beginning today you have the opportunity to pre-order a star kit to be assembled by you and your family in memory or honor of a loved one. The stars will be returned to Avondale and hung throughout the campus for viewing during the Advent Walk beginning Sunday, November 29. All proceeds from the memorial will go towards continuing to provide a hot lunch for our Avondale ACE children who are on campus weekly for remote learning.

Pre-order your star today and pick up the kit on Sunday, November 29 at the Advent Walk between 4:30 and 6:30 PM!
Lunches for Homeless Neighbors continues this winter!

Our first three Lunches for Homeless Neighbors events were a great success--it was so good to see each other, and to provide some much-needed help for the 70 working men at the Roof Above dorm. Each time, the men were so appreciative of our efforts. We now have three additional dates, on December 29, January 26, and February 23. Please take a look and sign up! You now have the opportunity to serve as a "Lunch Leader," which simply requires getting the groceries (Mission team will reimburse), leading the assembly, and taking the lunches over to the dorm in the Elizabeth neighborhood. This season, when Room in the Inn will unfortunately not be at Avondale, let's continue to join together and help our homeless neighbors!
