Yoga for Menopause: w/Melanie
Sunday, March 16- 2-4pm
|
Is it hot in here or is it just me? What happened to sleeping through the night? Why am I so achy/moody/sensitive!? Get ready to learn and chat about a topic that has been largely ignored but is getting LOTS of attention lately: menopause! The changes your body undergoes are real, from the natural chemical storm to mood swings, aches and maybe even an attitude switch. Everyone moves through “the change” in their own unique way so bolstering your knowledge is both grounding and empowering!
In this workshop, we will review some of the changes that occur in the body and discuss where you are in the menopause cycle. We’ll learn why building strength is so important and get moving with a gentle strengthening yoga practice. Then we’ll try out specific restorative yoga poses and breath practices that may help to manage your symptoms, ending with a restful savasana. All levels welcome, no experience needed.

Tell us About You and How Your Found Balancing Owl? Bobbie and I will be married for 49 years this July. We both retired from Nationwide Children’s in 2018, Bobbie as a nurse educator & me as a social worker. Our oldest son, Doug, is 41 and lives with his wife Katharine in Florida, with Emee 12, Jack 10, Luke 8, and Brooks 2. Casey is 36 and lives in Brooklyn with his wife, Priya. Doug and Casey attended Dublin schools K-12, and both graduated from Dublin Coffman. I retired from the US Coast Guard Reserve in 2001 as a Boatswain’s Mate Chief Petty Officer after 31 years of service. I am not sure how I became the old guy most places I go but it seems to be the case -I have done a lot of things for a lot of years. I am even older than Joe, Anne’s dad!
How Does Yoga Help You? Yoga helps me with flexibility, provides structure in my week, and gets me out of the house.
Why Do You Love Balancing Owl & What Keeps You Coming Back? I love the Balancing Owl community because it is welcoming and accepting; the instructors are awesome and the morning schedule of classes provides the options I enjoy at the frequency I need. Yoga is a low impact activity that fits my needs and I have enjoyed the addition of yoga/Pilates and other strength-focused classes to the schedule. I appreciate that no one makes us do crow poses!
