Dear valued partners and friends,
The past month has been profoundly memorable for me, as I rediscovered my sense of exploration and appreciation for nature and wildlife wonders. That's why for this newsletter, I invite you to take a moment to journey with me through North Borneo, especially the places that have deeply moved me: Sandakan and Danum Valley.
This Land Below the Wind earned its name due to its location south of the typhoon-prone areas, giving the region a relatively temperate and stable climate compared to its northern neighbours. More interestingly, it is a sanctuary for endemic and protected fauna.
I had the chance to observe wildlife in their natural habitat during a river safari cruise along the Kinabatangan River, also called as The Corridor of Life due to its rich biodiversity and vital ecological significance. The three-day program went by swiftly, and I was incredibly lucky to spot and observe our Borneo Big Five up close: Borneo Pygmy Elephants, Proboscis Monkeys, Orangutans, Rhinoceros Hornbills, and Crocodiles.

Another significant aspect of this untouched marvel is its wondrous lush rainforest. My trip to North Borneo wouldn’t be complete without a journey to Danum Valley, a 130 million-year-old rainforest that is a dream destination for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. My senses were awakened as I explored hiking trails leading to a suspension bridge, experienced forest bathing, and had many more unforgettable moments. Further into my exploration, I was lucky to witness Red Leaf Monkeys, Malayan Civets, Flying Squirrels, and an array of Bird Species (as well as Insects), which left me in awe!
In this newsletter, we feature our explorations, giving it its well-deserved spotlight. I hope my reflections reignite your travellers' curiosities and inspire them to discover one of my favourite destinations.
Here's to more adventures ahead, and stay tuned for our newly designed programs from Sabah!
Selamat jalan!
Yours,
Renee
