It's not always easy to keep focused. Life can be full of competing activities and distractions. Staying motivated is incredibly important when it comes to getting what we want in the long term-- and commitment over time exactly what achieving the Award requires.  Our framework encourages young people to develop and strengthen skills through non-formal learning. One of the best ways to engage your Award Unit and set them up for success is to encourage each participant to create SMART goals.

Participants can work on their goals independently, and/or as a group but they should always seek the advice and support of their Assessor and Award Leader if they need it. A great starting point for most participants is using this worksheet while deciding on what their goals will be.   Participants will get out what they put into their Award - there are no short cuts to a real sense of  achievement! Providing participants with a space and time to work on their goals is important. It's always great to offer in person support and group activities that help participants explore, understand, and shape their goals. If you're looking to brainstorm activity ideas please contact the Award Officer in your region.

When speaking to your participants, make sure their emails and contact information is up to date. When participants are graduating high school make sure their emails are changed from school to personal.

Dear Award Leaders you could win a $75 MEC gift card! All you need to do is participate in our  Social Value Research Survey It only takes 15 minutes to complete and your response will help us to understand the full impact the Award is having of young people and our local communities.
