Hollywood Actor Taye Diggs Surprises Alma Mater School of the Arts with Generous Donation from Burlington Stores and AdoptAClassroom.Org
(July 14, 2021) The Rochester City School District is grateful to AdoptAClassroom.org and Burlington Stores for its generous donation to students and staff at School of the Arts.

Award-winning actor and singer Taye Diggs surprised staff at School of the Arts on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 with the announcement that AdoptAClassroom.Org and Burlington Stores will donate more than $75,000 dollars to provide every teacher in the school with $750 dollars’ worth of supplies per classroom.

Diggs, a 1994 graduate of School of the Arts, is known for his roles in the Broadway musicals Rent and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and as Coach Billy Baker on television’s “All American.” During a conference call on Wednesday, Diggs encouraged participants to donate $1 or more at Burlington Stores to support AdoptAClassroom.org. Funds collected will help offset the out-of-pocket money teachers typically spend on school supplies.

Diggs addressed teachers on the call on Wednesday, July 14. He said, “I wouldn’t be where I am today were it not for School of the Arts. My mother was a teacher and there has always been a large place in my heart for teachers. I was able to experience the power and influence that teachers have when I went to School of the Arts. What teachers do is incredible and I wanted to thank you.”
