ProBoxTV returns on Friday, September 11, with its second “Championship Series” event, featuring junior-middleweight Giovani Santillan returning to his hometown of San Diego, California, to take on former WBA junior-middleweight champion Abass Baraou of Berlin, Germany, in a high-stakes 10-round main event.

WBO No. 4 and IBF No. 10-ranked Santillan, 35-1 (18 KOs), and WBA No. 4-, WBO No. 6- and WBC No. 11-ranked Baraou, 17-2 (9 KOs), will collide live on ProBoxTV (8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT) from Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California.

In the case of 154lbs contender Giovani Santillan, Friday night’s San Diego homecoming main event versus recent champion Abass Baraou of Germany provides an opportunity to cleanse the distaste of Santillan’s similar high-profile 2024 clash with Brian Norman Jnr.

Norman, seizing the moment in what Santillan trainer Robert Garcia said was the Georgia boxer’s “fight of his life,” stunningly knocked out Santillan in the 10th round and parlayed the WBO interim-title victory to a full championship and a lucrative date versus unbeaten Devin Haney.

Knowing what it’s like to be a world champion, Abass Baraou is intent on recapturing that sense of accomplishment as soon as he can.

Until then, he’s confronting the toll of going back in line, to prove his mettle against contenders still yearning for what he had.

That’s the nut of Friday night’s ProBoxTV main event at Frontwave Arena in Oceanside, California, where Germany’s recent WBA titlist Baraou, 17-2 (9 KOs), meets San Diego’s own highly ranked junior-middleweight Giovani Santillan, 35-1 (18 KOs).

Baraou was defeated January 31 by recent unified champion Xander Zayas in Puerto Rico, a split-decision that agonized and also brought lessons for the 31-year-old to embrace.
