Buchanan Family Foundation Awards Youth Leadership Scholarships

Congratulations to the two winners of the Buchanan Family Foundation scholarship Alexis McMullen and Ja’shaiya Paschal!

We asked graduates of the Youth Leadership Class of 2020 to submit an essay about how the program helped prepare them for the future. Three judges read all of the essays submitted and ranked them in order. Each winner is awarded a $1,000 scholarship for furthering their educations.

We are so proud of both the winners and cannot wait to see what their futures hold!

Now Open: YP of the Year Award Nominations

We are now accepting nominations for the 2021 Young Professional of the Year award presented by Kerkering, Barberio, & Co.! The purpose of this award is to recognize individuals age 40 and younger who have demonstrated outstanding leadership personally, professionally, and throughout our community. The award will be presented at our annual YP Summit on July 23rd, 2021 at Embassy Suites Sarasota.

Join guest speakers Kirk Boylston, President, Lakewood Ranch Commercial Realty and Monaca Onstad, Director, Community Relations as they update us on the opening of Waterside Place. Waterside Place is a mixed-use development in Lakewood Ranch that will include apartments, townhomes, shops, restaurants, office space, a theater and an 8-acre park. One of the largest projects to date on the Sarasota County side of Lakewood Ranch, it is under construction now and is expected to open Summer 2021.

Join us as Jeff LaHurd takes us back in time in exploring the history of downtown Sarasota. Jeff LaHurd is a county-wide historian and a prolific author on the history of the city & county he loves!

Local author/historian Jeff LaHurd has lived in Sarasota since 1950, and has written 17 books about the history of the community plus numerous articles which have appeared in The Sarasota Herald-Tribune, Style Magazine, SARASOTA Magazine, SRQ, and The Downtowner. He has given numerous lectures on the history of Sarasota, and is a sought after speaker.
