Happy Wednesday, fellow nonprofiteers!

It's a brand new month, and for some of us, a brand new year! At the start of a new fiscal year, it can be easy to feel overwhelmed. When what's ahead seems like it's too much, take a moment to look back and remember how far you have come, and the impact you have already had on your community. And don't forget to celebrate your accomplishments, and those of your peers!

I created What's Good Wednesday to provide a weekly reminder for hardworking do-gooders like you to stop, breathe, and congratulate yourselves on a job well done. We've got lots more great nonprofit news in this week's edition. Scroll down to see What's Good this week!

What's Good This Week!

Avalon Foundation

The Avalon Foundation is set to welcome artists from all over the world to Easton, Maryland for Plein Air Easton, the largest and most prestigious juried plein air arts festival in the United States. The festival kicks off on July 11th and runs through July 20th. There are many activities, demos, and events over the course of the festival, including a quick draw painting competition on July 19th that is open to anyone!

I have lived and worked in Easton during this event, and it's awesome. There are artists all over town, and you literally get to watch the artwork come to life in front of your eyes. Best of luck to all of the artists, and to the Avalon Foundation, for a hugely successful event! Learn more about it at pleinaireaston.com.

MidShore Meals Til Monday

Congratulations to the Executive Director of MidShore Meals Til Monday, Pam Allen! Pam was named as a 2025 Annual Summer Hunger Hero by No Kid Hungry. She is one of 11 honorees from 9 state across the country who have shown outstanding commitment to summer hunger relief.

MidShore Meals Til Monday began serving summer meals last year, and through a grant from No Kid Hungry, now has a fully outfitted van and will expand the reach of summer meals to more families, even those living in remote areas. Thank you to Pam and MidShore Meals Til Monday for providing such a vital community resource, particularly in rural areas where it is difficult for children to access food outside of school.

Habitat For Humanity Choptank

There is huge news coming from Habitat for Humanity Choptank this week. They informed me that they dedicated their 125th house on June 28th, and the owner, Hannah, and her family moved in the same day! That's 125 homebuyers building generational wealth and giving a safe, secure, and stable home for their families.

When you think of the number of people who come together to build one Habitat for Humanity home, it is truly mind-boggling to imagine the amount of work, time, energy, and compassion that led to 125 homes being built. In addition, Habitat homeowners must work incredibly hard to be able to complete their home purchases. It's an unbelievable accomplishment for every single person involved. Congratulations, Habitat, and here's to many more homes!

Tides of Grace

Last Saturday, Tides of Grace hosted a Senior Sunshine Day. Their team ran events across four counties on Maryland's Mid-Shore, and served 120 seniors in low income senior housing communities.

They served lunch, had local beauticians on hand for free hair cuts and manicures, provided entertainment including live music and bingo, handed out gifts, and connected the seniors with community resources. Most importantly, they had real conversations and got to know the seniors so they can better serve them. We mention Tides of Grace a lot at What's Good Wednesday because they are constantly doing amazing work in the Mid-Shore community. Keep it up, TOG!

Talbot Interfaith Shelter

Talbot Interfaith Shelter is sharing news about an upcoming event that a local business is hosting on their behalf. On July 20th, Dover Market is hosting Brunch & Couture to raise money for TIS.

The afternoon will feature a fashion show, light bites and cocktails, and a permanent jewelry exhibit and shop. It's always wonderful to hear about businesses and organizations leveraging their resources to show support for a nonprofit's mission in this way. I hope the event is a roaring success, and that TIS will share some highlights when it is over so we can celebrate with them! If you're interested in learning more, click here.

Positive Strides Therapeutic Riding

Positive Strides Therapeutic Riding recently hosted two sessions of their PonyPower Camp. The first was for a group of families from the Federalsburg Judy Center, and the second was for 45 campers from Critchlow Adkins Children’s Centers’ White Marsh Site. PonyPower camp is an unmounted camp where they work hands on with horses and also do various STEAM activities and crafts.

They brush and lead the horses and even finger paint a horse. They call it a living mural. That sounds like a super fun way to spend a summer day... We could all probably use the calming influence of the horses from Positive Strides today!

C&O Canal Trust

The C&O Canal Trust recently celebrated their Canal Community and the history of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park. The event was held at Swains Lockhouse, one of seven historical lockhouses that have been rehabilitated and are available to visitors for a unique overnight experience.

Each house has been furnished and decorated to reflect a unique period of the canal's history, and each tells a different story about the daily life of the lock keepers, who played in integral role in the canal's operation. These houses are available for stays up to three nights, and all revenue supports their maintenance.

This is such a unique and creative way to not only immerse people in your mission and their own local history, but also to raise the funds to help maintain these important landmarks!

Boys & Girls Clubs of America

Yesterday, the Boys and Girls Clubs of America launched a new campain called "America Needs Club Kids." The campaign does a phenomenal job of illustrating the economic impact of supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs.

According to the campaign, 94% of Club Kids say they have the job skills to succeed, 4 out of 5 report getting mostly A's and B's in school, and for every dollar donated, the long-term economic impact is $10.24. It really positions a donation to the Boys and Girls Club as a true investment in the future of our country. The campaign is incredibly impactful, and I wish them the greatest success! I hope they will report back after it is over to let us know how it went!

Topic of the Week!

It's the start of a new fiscal year, not the end of the world! I know the tally has started back at zero, but you have accomplished so much, and you will do it again. Deep breaths... you are headed for big success this year!
