AdviseAZ, an AmeriCorps program that places trained, near-peer college advisers in high schools and communities, has welcomed a new cohort of 18 members.
The members, who are current college students or recent college graduates, have been placed at 14 low-income (Title I) high schools and community sites across Arizona.
They are prepared and excited to help their students with the college exploration process, including taking college admissions tests, applying to colleges, completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), securing financial aid and matriculating to college.

When students participate in sports and other extracurriculars, that's a win no matter what. They win, our schools win and our community wins!
The teamwork, discipline, problem-solving and dedication that extracurriculars require are skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. In fact, these students are also more likely to go on to attend and graduate from college as well as reach success in their careers.

Our CAP trainings are back and redesigned to be better than ever! Each five-week course allows you to earn recertification hours with Arizona-specific content, online discussions with peers and assignments that culminate in an action plan to help you contribute to the college-going culture at your school or organization.

Earlier this year, Access ASU and the ASU Social Embeddedness partnered with Maryvale High School to pilot a day-long youth summit experience focused on engaging high school students and youth-serving community organizations as well as ASU staff, faculty and students.
Join our virtual Wild Out Counselor Wednesday at 11 a.m. on Oct. 19 to learn more about the Maryvale Youth Summit.

This is a FREE event to help Arizona students and families become prepared for college.
The day starts with a college-going resource fair that will include more than 50 organizations including nonprofits, in-state universities, military academies and scholarship-granting organizations.

This event will be taking place at Civic Space Park on Sunday, Oct. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The 2022 Arizona ACT Conference will be held at Arizona State University's Memorial Union and will provide attendees with the opportunity to gain new perspectives, expand their knowledge and find solutions to problems facing the education and workforce landscape.
This event will take place on Dec. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Applications to Earn to Learn's scholarships for the 2023-24 academic year are now open!
The scholarship empowers low-to-moderate-income students to successfully complete college by giving students $4,000 toward college costs on their $500 savings commitment per academic year.
|
|
The Earn to Learn scholarship program works on a first come first serve basis because it has a limited number of awards at each of their partnering college and universities (ASU, NAU, UArizona, Pima Community College, Cochise College and Mohave Community College).
This year, students need to complete their application by October 24 or November 28 for the best chance of securing their place in the program. There are additional deadlines in early 2023.

The Flinn Scholars Program, in partnership with Arizona’s three state universities, provides enriched educational offerings that expand a Scholar’s life and career options while creating the kind of stimulating, intellectually challenging environment that some students assume can only be found at the nation’s most selective colleges.
The Flinn Scholarship offers virtually a full-ride for undergraduate education, but also programming and support that continues far beyond undergraduate study into Scholars' personal and professional development after graduation.

With October comes all the exciting autumnal things, trees changing colors, Halloween and the opening of FAFSA season.
As FAFSA numbers continue to grow, getting closer to pre-pandemic numbers slowly but surely, we're sure schools remain eager to raise those numbers even higher. The National College Attainment Network (NCAN) has a robust library of resources to help in these efforts.
NCAN has a FAFSA resource library, which has a monthly calendar of action items and resources for activities that promote FAFSA completion like:
- A FAFSA planning calendar
- Info on laying the groundwork and engaging external partners
- Completing the actual FAFSA form
- Training and capacity building
- Communication
- Accessing and using data
