The proclamation adds that Azerbaijan has worked to promote peace, stability, tolerance and multiculturalism in the Caucasus.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer proclaimed Dec. 31, 2018, as Azerbaijani Solidarity Day in San Diego, saying that San Diego and the Azerbaijan capital of Baku became sister cities in 2011. It recalls Azerbaijan’s history as the first Muslim-majority country to empower women’s rights.
