On November 18th, the Azusa City Council unanimously placed
Measure Z
– a local ¾ cent sales tax measure on the March 3, 2020 ballot for voter consideration. If approved,
Measure Z
would provide locally controlled funds for Azusa’s public safety and other City services.
In 2018, Azusa police officers, local firefighters and paramedics responded to more than 100,000 calls for service, including 15,000 911 calls of which 1,900 were medical emergencies.
Measure Z
funding could be used to maintain 911 emergency response, police officer staffing levels and patrols of our local neighborhoods, schools and parks.
If approved,
Measure Z
could also be used to maintain services like these and other community – identified priorities such as:
- Continuing police anti-gang enforcement programs
- Addressing homelessness
- Maintaining police patrols of neighborhood schools
- Maintaining police patrols of neighborhoods, parks and recreations areas
- Preventing reductions to police officer staffing levels
- Maintaining city services
