KEEPING AZUSA DOLLARS LOCAL
Important information about MEASURE Z
On November 18th, the Azusa City Council unanimously placed  Measure Z  – a local ¾ cent sales tax measure on the March 3, 2020 ballot for voter consideration. If approved,  Measure Z  would provide locally controlled funds for Azusa’s public safety and other City services.

In 2018, Azusa police officers, local firefighters and paramedics responded to more than 100,000 calls for service, including 15,000 911 calls of which 1,900 were medical emergencies.  Measure Z  funding could be used to maintain 911 emergency response, police officer staffing levels and patrols of our local neighborhoods, schools and parks.

If approved,  Measure Z  could also be used to maintain services like these and other community – identified priorities such as:

  • Continuing police anti-gang enforcement programs
  • Addressing homelessness
  • Maintaining police patrols of neighborhood schools
  • Maintaining police patrols of neighborhoods, parks and recreations areas
  • Preventing reductions to police officer staffing levels
  • Maintaining city services
  • Repairing streets and potholes
Measure Z  requires all funds to be used in Azusa and also requires independent annual audits and public reports to ensure funds are spent properly. By law, no funds can be taken by the state, county or federal government.

Azusa voters will also have the opportunity to select Azusa’s Mayor and two City Councilmembers on the March 3rd Municipal Election ballot.

For this election, the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters will be experimenting with a new ballot format and voting system – Voting Solutions for All People (VSAP) where new voting technology will be implemented. Furthermore, eligible Azusa residents will be able to register or re-register to vote all the way up to and including on Election Day. For more information on the new systems or registering to vote, visit the  Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters  or the  Azusa City Clerk .
