Azusa voters will have the opportunity to select Azusa’s Mayor and two City Councilmembers and vote on
Measure Z
– a local ¾ cent sales tax measure on the March 3, 2020 ballot. If approved,
Measure Z
would provide locally controlled funds for Azusa’s public safety and other City services.
“Public safety is a top priority in Azusa,” said Police Chief Mike Bertelsen. “Last year Azusa police officers, local firefighters and paramedics responded to more than 100,000 calls for service, including 15,000 911 calls of which 1,900 were medical emergencies. An additional source of local funding for Azusa could be used to maintain 911 response services so that people get help during an emergency.”
Azusa currently receives less than 17¢ on every sales tax dollar generated in the City.
