AZUSA CELEBRATES OPERATION OF ITS NEWEST WIND ENERGY TURBINES

Mayor Robert Gonzales, Councilmember Edward Alvarez, Councilmember Dennis Beckwith, City Clerk Jeffrey Cornejo, Jr. along with Azusa Light & Water (ALW) Staff led by Richard Torres, ALW Assistant General Manager-Resource Management, at the ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 19.

On June 19, 2024, Azusa inaugurated the operation of its eight (8) new wind turbines in North Palm Springs, CA, east of Morongo Casino, expanding its clean energy capacity. The Mesa Wind Energy Center’s potential generation of up to 30 MW can supply 22,500 residential homes under a 25-year power purchase agreement.

The new Wind Project is a big milestone in expanding Azusa's renewable energy supply mix that exceeds the State’s Renewable Portfolio Mandate, and ensuring the future sustainability of Azusa's energy needs.

Press Release

AZUSA'S SB 1383 COMPLIANCE

Starting January 2022, Azusa began using automated trash collection to comply with SB 1383 guidelines. This law requires all Californians to place food scraps, landscaping waste, and 100% fiber-based food-soiled paper in their green waste bin. This helps reduce organic waste in landfills and cuts our carbon footprint.

You may use translucent or paper bags to line your kitchen pail for easier cleanup and odor control. These bags aren't compostable but are sorted out during processing. For detailed instructions on what goes in your organics bin, go to CanIRecycleMy.com.

Please continue to do your part to help the City of Azusa meet SB 1383 requirements.
